"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Come to me I'll fill the hole
Why would I be lying
End fan, all planned out
Offering a wonderful
Peace of mind worth buying
Bow down last round up
I am wise and you don't know
A cloud is my home
Only some get in
Got a 'maginary friend
The devil put dinosaurs here
Jesus don't like a queer
The devil put dinosaurs here
No problem with faith just fear
Promise those who've gone before
Waitin' on you flyin'
Leading receiving us
I'm as flawed as any man
Look at me I'm smiling
Drink me, eat me up
I am wise and you don't know
A cloud is my home
Only some get in
Got a 'maginary friend
The devil put dinosaurs here
Jesus don't like a queer
The devil put dinosaurs here

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
Can't Jerry and these low-brow rockers come up with something different than mocking God? It's going on 40 years now, these guys recycle the same old anti-Christ and anti-God crap. It's lame, old, tired....and they're stupid anyway: Why support the god that hates mankind (Devil) against the one that loves? Dumb Jerry, drug addict moron, he's not going to like finding out which side he ends up on after his death. Dumb!
You sound like a religious nutjob who just can't get over the fact that people more in the public eye talk about the inevitability that there is no God and the sillyness and hypocricies of religion and the different religious ideas and movements. Many of these bands don't even support or worship the Devil. They actually think he is just as made up as all of this God and Jesus shit. They believe that once you die, you die. You don't transform into a ghost and go to the clouds or a burning pot depending on how you behave.

"Jesus don't like a queer" Have you ever thought about what that ACTUALLY means? I mean, this is the "SONGMEANINGS" website, not the hell-bound heathen discussion board. That line is obviously referring to the many religions and ideas that being gay is unnatural, immoral, against God's will, etc. In the real world, there are loads and loads of people that believe that these religious folk and principles should just fuck off and let people be the way they want, be it gay lesbian, whatever.

Also, Jerry Cantrell is not a drug addict. Layne and Mike were the addicts in the band. Shows what you know about... anything. I'd go as far to say that you aren't even a fucking fan of this band since you didn't know that fact.
