The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
you are at the height of your game, aren't you?
would you not say that you agree, baby?
you got your grift all fine-tuned and sparkling
yeah, you got your bored look all worked out
you are all enlightened, nothing makes you frightened
you ain't got no time to waste on entry-level middle-class
you are supercilious, pretty and ridiculous
you got really good taste, you know how to cut and paste
what you got is a black belt in b.s.
but you can't hawk your pretty wares up in here any more
hit your head on the playground at recess
etch-a-sketch your way out of this one, reject
you know how to get what you want, don't you?
would you not say that you agree, baby?
you really think that you can school me in semantics
i can't recommend that, baby, i see through your antics
you think you're mysterious, you cannot be serious
you got lots of time to think up new ways to deceive yourself
you are callipygian, but look at the state you're in
you got really nice clothes, bet you didn't pay for those
what you got is a black belt in b.s.
but you can't hawk your pretty wares up in here any more

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
This is obviously directed at a person who is disingenuous, manipulative and full of themselves - but the narrator sees right through this BS, presumably after being in a painful relationship together.
@themostbrian <br /> I agree, More specifically someone with BPD or Narcissistic personality disorder. I love the song solely on rhythm, tone and vibe level. As I listened to that thumping rhythmic bass line over and over the words started to grab me. They were describing in detail someone that I knew very well. My Narcissistic ex-wife. It's one of my fav songs now on my playlist. It makes me giggle cause I know all the tricks now and give her little energy as possible. Makes me cry sometimes too. Its hard when you realize that someone you once loved is a bold faced lie. But John's humorous take on the whole thing makes me smile overall. Thank's J Grant. #underratedartist
Narcissistic ex. The liar. The lie. The bully. The final realisation of all of these, the coldness you feel after you realise that lie.
