I hear the clock, it's 6 AM
I feel so far from where I've been
I got my eggs, I got my pancakes too
I got my maple syrup, everything but you
I break the yolks and make a smiley face
I kinda like it in my brand new place
Wipe the spots off of the mirror
Don't leave the keys in the door
I never put wet towels on the floor anymore 'cause

Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know that you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

I called my mama, she was out for a walk
Consoled a cup of coffee but it didn't wanna talk
So I picked up a paper, it was more bad news
More hearts being broken or people being used
Put on my coat in the pouring rain
I saw a movie it just wasn't the same
'Cause it was happy or I was sad
And it made me miss you oh so bad 'cause

Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know that you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

I go about my business, I'm doing fine
Besides, what would I say if I had you on the line?
Same old story, not much to say
Hearts are broken every day

I brush my teeth, I put the cap back on
I know you hate it when I leave the light on
I pick up a book up and then I turn the sheets down
And then I take a deep breath, a good look around
Put on my pj's and hop into bed
I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead
I try and tell myself it'll all be alright
I just shouldn't think anymore tonight 'cause

Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
And I know that you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

Yeah, you were meant for me
And I was meant for you

Always thought this story was about going through a breakup or rather the after effect.. but you still feel that the person is meant for you. Still you keep hoping they will come back into your life. A sweet and beautiful song :-)

Every time we fall in love we give away a piece of our heart's real estate. If it doesn't work out, the we take back residence...but that part of our heart is no longer in the same condition. It's got them all over it. Whether we love them still or hate them now, that little bit of our heart has the one we loved all over it and through it. It's sad and this song is about that complicated, messy and desperately empty time we have to spend cleaning house after they leave, making our hearts our own again so that one day we can let someone else stay there. We learn to stand on our own again and keep our own company. The beauty of this song is that it carries the hope of reunion, people are so full of silly imperfections that can too easily cause a breakup. But what do keys in the door, spots on the mirror and wet towels matter when someone is meant for you and you're meant for them? When you've no hope of being reunited, then being able to do these things again without it turning into an argument is the sole consolation of a breakup, but she's not going back to them because she truly believes that in time she'll be going back to him. It's a great song, it leaves you with no clarity on the story's ending, but so accurately depicts the moment of the story she's trying to convey.

Ahh...this song reminds me so much of when I was seperated from my now ex-husband...I wanted so badly to be with him, and I was alone all the time because he was in a different state. I was also numb because I was frightened about the state of the relationship...rightfully so, as it turned out.

The complete and utter emptiness you feel when the one you loved no longer loves you. And you can't seem to grasp why you're not with them. The feeling is so hollow and you don't know what to do with yourself.

Trying to go about normal life, but things aren't the same because the person that she loves isn't in her life. She is still trying to hold on to hope because soon you will see that you were meant for me. She is still dreaming after he is gone. She is doing what it takes to go on with life

    my favourite jewel song

i think jewel is basically summing up all the different stages a person goes through after a breakup using the different stages in a persons day. She starts in the morning, the persons doing their daily morning routine (making breakfast)- the persons trying to carry on as normal as if nothings happened but somthings missing. Then she turns to hope - does all the things she never did before (dont leave the keys in the door) in the hope that he'll come bak soon the chorus is basically her trying to convince herself that the person will realise they are wrong n come bak to her the bridge is finally her realising that she has to move on n that shes not alone - everyone has breakups

i love the last chorus in this song cos it sounds like shes crying when shes singing, very emotional song and beautifully written.

I'm actually living out this song in its entirety right now. To me this song means so much and while it is sad, it provides comfort. This is how I see it as..

Waking up realzing that even today, a brand new day.. still means I have to continue live even if its without you. All of those things you nagged on me to do, I'll do them if it means you'll come back.

Someday, you'll see through everything and come back.

I try and continue on with everyday tasks. But they just arent the same without you. I feel so lonely now youre gone.

Calling you would be pointless. Everything that could be said has been. I'm still hurt

I continue to do the small things, but even getting ready for bed reminds me that you arent here. I just need to sleep. I cant think about you not being here anymore.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
