Check, check, check, check
Check, check, check, check
Check, check, check, check ch-
Woah

Don't believe what they say
We're dead flies in the summer time
They leave us all behind
With duct tape scars on my honey
They don't like who you are
You won't like where we'll go
Brother protect me now
With blood they wash in the money

You don't believe in God
I don't believe in luck
They don't believe in us
But I believe we're the enemy
You don't believe in God
I don't believe in luck
They don't believe in us
But I believe we're the enemy

Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh

Right now I'm sick down from the bones to the other side
Red-mob, we insects hide
King rat on the streets in another life
They laugh, we don't think it's funny
If what you are
Is just what you own
What have you become
When they take from you
Almost everything

You don't believe in God
I don't believe in luck
They don't believe in us
But I believe we're the enemy
You don't believe in God
I don't believe in luck
They don't believe in us
But I believe we're the enemy

Destroya, Destroya
Destroya, Destroya
Destroya, Destroya
Against the sun - we're the enemy
Destroya, Destroya
Destroya, Destroyer

Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh (uh) uh
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh (uh) uh uh
Uh uh uh uh

I don't believe in God (you don't believe in God)
I don't believe in luck (I don't believe in luck)
I don't believe in you (they don't believe in us)
I just believe we're the enemy (but I believe we're the enemy)

I don't believe in God (you don't believe in God)
I don't believe in luck (I don't believe in luck)
I don't believe in you (they don't believe in us)
I just believe we're the enemy (but I believe we're the enemy)

Uh uh uh uh (uh uh uh)
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh (uh uh uh)
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh (uh uh uh)
Uh uh uh uh
Uh uh uh uh (uh uh uh)

You don't believe in God
I don't believe in luck
They don't believe in us
But I believe we're the enemy
You don't believe in God
I don't believe in luck
They don't believe in us
But I believe we're the enemy

Destroya, Destroya
Destroya, Destroya
Destroya, Destroya

Against the sun - we're the enemy
Destroya, Destroya
We're all waiting for ya
Destroya, Destroya
Against the sun - we're the enemy

Destroya, Destroya (so show me what you got)
We're all waiting for ya (you children of the gun)
Destroya, Destroya (don't hide and we don't run)
Against the sun - we're the enemy
Destroya, Destroya (so show me what you got)
Destroya, Destroya (against the sun - we're the enemy)

    So.. song meaning time..

According to an interview I saw, this song was inspired by the Holi Festival in India (hence the drum beats). Its partially a commentary on the cast system, with lines like, "Its' unbelievable see we're dead flies in the summer time" labeling the worth of the bottom of the cast system. Also, comparing themselves again to insects in the second verse, lessening the worth of the person by what they own.. a modern version of today's cast system within America. It begs the question, what would you become if you lost everything? Just another rat on the street.

The "duct tape scars" is another poverty reference. Duct tape, the versatile gift from the gods, can be used as sutures if nothing else is available. The bottom of the cast system cannot afford hospitals, so their scars are made up of duct tape sutures.

Regardless of meaning, this song very powerful, probably my favorite off the album. If nothing else, I feel like it's calling to not destroy the corporation, the government, "the man" as many punk songs call for, but to destroy the cast system, this system that backs us into an economic hole, regardless of social status, making it nearly impossible to break from. Destroy the labels, destroy the discrimination against poverty. Rebuild to become a stronger and more unified humanity.

The lyrics up on the main lyrics bit are correct. I checked them against my booklet.

Also, I only just cracked open my liner notes for the lyrics for this... I've been singing "but I believe in the enemy" instead of "but I believe we're the enemy" for a week. I need to reinterpret this song now.

Also, I love Gerard's random sex noises/dolphin impressions/dolphin sex noises.

I can't help thinking that this song would work really well in a Fight Club context, alternating between Tyler and the Narrator. Tyler has the verses; the Narrator, the chorus.

"If what you are Is just what you own What have you become When they take from you Almost everything?" ...has the same basic meaning as "The things you own end up owning you." which is one of Tyler's most famous lines. And, actually it sounds like most of what Tyler says in the film and the book, just in song form and ugh, guys. It's so perfect. Just the right amount of anger and chaos and violence and sex appeal that Fight Club has and askfhjaksldjf.

I didn't explain this very well. I'm sorry.

    My Interpretation

Gerard said he's always struggled with gender issues, and the lyric, "With duct tape scars on my honey." makes me believe that he's talking about the way in which a lot of transgender people will attempt to bind (in a pinch) their chest with duct tape. When the tape is removed, a lot of skin is removed with it, thus creating, "duct tape scars."

    Just a thought, idk.

    My Opinion

Yupp, Steiny has the right lyrics. I just listened to this song. I ripped the audio from their listening party video on Youtube, the one with Dr. Death Defying as the host.

Honestly, I like every song on their album except for this one. It doesn't really thrill me. But since I like 11 out of 12 of their new album so far, it's not a big deal if one song on their album is a hit and miss.

The only song that I can't really get into is Zero Percent, but that's an extra song that that didn't even make it onto their new album, so I'm not counting that one. Who know though, maybe they'll grow on me.

Nope, Elective Amnesia got the lyrics right (thought some lyrics from the song aren't included on the booklet). It's always "But I believe WE'RE the enemy" and "Agains the sun - we're the enemy". The lyrics in the verses by Elective are correct also. :)

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
