"Tropical Birds" as written by Charlie Brand and Rick Schaier....
Little birds hidden in your purse
Travel about and you never take them out
Little creatures flying off the page
A little prisoner you can lock up in a cage

Tropical birds love to get away
You wanna keep them but they never wanna stay
Little creatures, innocent and free
You twisted sisters only wanna clip their wings

I've kept them most my life

It's the colorful feathers that hold me together and keep me from crumbling in a mess on the floor
When they fly through the sky I feel something inside
I don't know what it is but it is magic

It's the colorful feathers that hold me together and keep me from crumbling in a mess on the floor
When they fly through the sky I feel something inside
I don't know what it is but it is magic

General CommentThere's a certain whimsicality but somberness to the song that I think adds to its appeal. I especially liked its use in Skins.

    Overall, I'm enthralled with Fortress.

My InterpretationI think the birds could represent internal desire, things you want but "can't" have. We often repress desire. Be it love, sex, or even buying a candy bar. Charlie is saying that life is better when you give in. Let the birds fly.
