Add nice
Sugar and spice
I'll take you on a cruise to somewhere nice
You haven't been before
Love was meant for more
You moved up close, I could feel your sweat
I kissed you on the neck and you got wet
It's a shallow treat for a guy like me

Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you

I've got nothin' keeping me here
I've wasted all the love that I hold dear
I'll throw a dart: L.A.
The wolf has run away
The guy you know thinks he's so slick
He'll kiss you on the lips but he'll get sick
Lothario
He's a creep you know

Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you

I'm on your trail, I can smell your blood
I've had enough with unrequited love
It's the coast I crave
Leads me to my grave
Still in my head was the sick of my spine
Give it up and I will make you mine
I will buy you things
Like diamond rings

Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you

well, i dont think the meaning is too hard to see. but in my nervous insecure moments, singing this song to myself.. it makes me feel so so good! catchy and easy to listen to. very literal.

and if you dont know, lothario is a play character who seduces women, it also means a person who seduces women in general.

so basically I think I think that maybe this ladies' man has found the one. He found her and she's all he sees. "Everybodys looking at you like they want to..." thats great :)

my favorite lines "i will buy you things. Like diamond rings" i have that on a shirt now haha. Its saying that he would get her anything in the world, and he uses diamonds because they are one of the main symbols of rich, and the most beautiful things. I love this song:)

    My Interpretation

I actually had a really different take on this song, whether I am right or wrong. But in the first verse I can see he meets this girl and would give her anything. She must be the hottest girl alive because everyone looks at her and wants to go home with her. In the second verse I guess that they have broken up, he has been having no luck with anyone else because he can't get over this one girl. So he moves on to L.A. This girl must be meeting other guys and he is thinking that none of them will work out because obviously he is the one, whether she believes that or not is a different story. Once again, she is a super attractive chick and everyone wants to go home with her. It then gets a little creepy. He is totally obsessed with this woman and can't/won't get over her. She must force herself to be with him because he is convinced they must be together. He will give her anything she wants in order for his wish to happen. And then blah blah, the ending, everyone wants her.

I don't know if it's just me, but this is how I interpreted the song.

    My Interpretation

I think the song is kind of like the story of a loser who gets a chance with a beautiful popular girl. In the first verse he's talking about how he thinks she's perfect and she deserves to have someone "take you on a cruise to somewhere nice you haven't been before" because "love was meant for more." Then the next part of when they're hooking up (probably like at a party or something)

And then the chorus is talking about how "Everybody's looking at you like they want to go home with you" because she so beautiful.

The second verse is after they sort of break-up (I'm not sure if they we're together at all in the first place). He's saying without his love there's no reason to stay where he is so he runs away to L.A. Here I think he refers to himself as a wolf because it's like a Lone Wolf a.k.a a loser. The girls gets together with a guy who's a player or "Lothario" and the boy says he a creep because he's jealous.

    And the chorus again.....

The third verse is when he's given up trying to get over his feelings. He's tired of not being loved back or "I've had enough with unrequited love" so he's trying to find the girl again because she's "the coast I crave." The last few lines I think is after he finds the girl again she doesn't take him back but he says she should just give it up because in the end he'll have her because he'll "buy her things like diamond rings."

The last chorus part I like to think is after they're together again and while the boy is with the girl people still look at her because of her beauty.

Great song, very clever lyrics. From my point of view it looks like this is a story about a sort of hot and cold relationship. Really interesting how the context of the verse changes the meaning of the chorus without changing the lyrics or tone of the song.

the first verse talks about the relationship from a sort of immature viewpoint referencing a child's rhyme and focusing on the sexual attraction alone. the following chorus is him proudly saying how everybody wants to take the girl home apparently because she's attractive and how he's the lucky guy who is taking her home.

The second verse is almost a complete reversal where the relationship is now very toxic. They apparently move to LA on a whim (like they threw a dart on a map and it landed near LA) but it doesn't solve anything. He talks about how all of their love is wasted and the Lothario reference implies that either she is cheating on him or he thinks she is cheating on him when she actually isn't.

Here the chorus changes and instead of him being proud to be with her he despises how other men are looking to take his girlfriend from him and is paranoid about the relationship.

The last verse isn't as clear but to me it looks like the main guy recognizes that his insecurity is only making things worse and he truly does love the girl and is willing to make compromises to make things better and possibly marrying her.

The final chorus being neither prideful nor paranoid but simply stating that everyone is going to be going after his girl like it's something that he is just going to have to deal with.

Anyone else hear this for the first time while watching teen Wolf a decade ago? \nI love this song and it comes into my head often. Even though I am now old(er), married, with a kid, I still reminisce on the feeling of having a crush. This song reminds me of that.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
