Your plans don't mean a thing to me
Your words don't make any sense
Your thoughts are dyin' somewhere else

Is there something that I've done?
Is there something that you've read?
Is there something that I've said?
All alone

You come up to breathe
You're talking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side
You get up to leave
You're walking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side

Who's gonna take you out
Who's gonna walk you home
Who's gonna be your own
Who's gonna make you laugh
Who's gonna make you cry
Who's gonna dry your eyes
When I'm gone

You come up to breathe
You're talking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side
You get up to leave
You're walking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side

Never gonna reach my hope
Never tuck you into bed
Never be your best friend
And I'll never pick you up in my car
Never wake up in your arms
And I'll never see you again
Anymore

You come up to breathe
You're talking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side
You get up to leave
While walking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side

You come up to breathe
You're talking in circles
You've gotta see I'm on the right side
I will come back
'Cause I'm on the right side

My inital thoughts on this song was the breakup of a man and woman where the man was left behind never getting to experience the things that they said they would do however when i listened to it more i believe the song is about a man dying of cancer who is having to leave behind the woman he loves.

'Your plans don't mean a thing to me Your words don't make any sense Your thoughts are dyin' somewhere else'

-The plans that she is making don't mean anything to him as he knows that he won't be around to experience them with her, her thoughts could also be dying alike him as all of the things she had hoped for the future will no longer happen.

'Is there something that I've done? Is there something that you've read? Is there something that I've said? All alone'

    • He may not understand why she is perhaps distancing herself from him, he feels that it's something that he has done or said. She may have read up on the condition he has and it may have scared her causing her to keep a distance to prevent herself being majorly hurt when the end comes.

'You come up to breathe You're talking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side You get up to leave You're walking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side'

-She keeps on talking about the same thing over and over, perhaps she is struggling to accept the truth of it all , she may not be able to comprehend what is going on and that therefore results in them going round in circles getting nowhere. She may have tried to leave him however physically can't as her love for him is too strong and she finds herself in an impossible situation as she knows how hard it is going to be for her when he's not there.

    • it took me a while to make some sense of the line 'i'm on the right side' however after a lot of thinking i came to the result that maybe it is a referral to jesus as he is said to be at the right side of God. He may be trying to tell her that it is okay as he will be at the right side up in heaven with God looking down on her.

Who's gonna take you out Who's gonna walk you home Who's gonna be your own Who's gonna make you laugh Who's gonna make you cry Who's gonna dry your eyes When I'm gone

-Here he is wondering who is going to be there for her when he isn't, who is going to do all of the things that he does for her, will she be totally alone or will she find someone else? There is a real sense of sadness to this as he wants to do all of those things for her but he physically can't and has to accept that one day someone else will be with her.

You come up to breathe You're talking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side You get up to leave You're walking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side

'Never gonna reach my hope Never tuck you into bed Never be your best friend And I'll never pick you up in my car Never wake up in your arms And I'll never see you again Anymore'

-I find this part incredibly despairing as he is realizing that he will never be able to do the things that he wants to with her as he will be gone.

You come up to breathe You're talking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side You get up to leave While walking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side

You come up to breathe You're talking in circles You've gotta see I'm on the right side I will come back 'Cause I'm on the right side

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
