They've got something green just for our condition
Safely in hands
Any unconscious faith you had in your convictions
On an airplane we dance

And even off the aircraft
Everything seems to make us laugh
Attention won't come easy
It never did
It never did
It comes easier

We've got something great so hopefully you trust us
And don't do too much
Any unconscious faith you had in your convictions
On an airplane we dance

And even off the aircraft
Everything seems to make us laugh
Attention won't come easy
It never did
It never did

So what you ended up having to say
You're always gonna owe me the same
We're all, we're all over the influence
We're collecting interest

And even off the aircraft
Everything seems to make us laugh
Attention goes away
But we always end up
On the plane
We're off the plane
On the plane
We're off

Oops, sorry, I accidently clicked add comment when I wasn't done :( Anyways,

I've had this song on my iPod for a while and never really noticed anything special about it besides a catchy guitar rift and interesting voice from Anthony, but yesterday I started thinking about what it could mean and was surprised

I started really listening to it at:

"And even off the aircraft Everything seems to make us laugh"

When I heard this, I spontaneously thought, 'What would make me laugh at everything?" and after a few seconds, marijuana came into my mind. I then thought about the alignment of laughing to aircrafts, and airplanes are generally 'high'. At this point, I doubted the validity of my assumption because I have repeatedly heard from fans that Anthony Green is drug free, and a song dedicated to drugs would be a bit unusal. But then, I remembered Drug Dealer from Avalon and thought maybe it's a similar structure. So, I kept listening, and eventually heard:

"We're all, we're all over the influence"

And I immediately thought of those "above the influence" commercials. I hadn't quite persuaded myself yet, but after starting the song over and hearing:

"They've got something green just for our condition"

I was pretty certain it was related to weed.

After realizing this, I started to actually analyze the lyrics. From what I understand, marijuana is symbolized by the 'airplane' that he dances on, and eventually, even when he's off the airplane (the drug), he still laughs at everything. Then later, again saying "We're all over the influence, and collecting interest." I thought maybe that either drugs had permanently made his life better and he no longer needed them, so he could sell them for "interest", or he was permabaked and doing the same thing. Either way, it seems to be about someone's addiction to pot eventually spiralling into a dealing state. Of course, I may be completely backwards and incorect, but there is clear evidence supporting this interpretation for a song with an otherwise hidden meaning.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
