In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I know you've suffered
But I don't want you to hide
It's cold and loveless
I won't let you be denied
Soothing
I'll make you feel pure
Trust me
You can be sure
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart
You trick your lovers
That you're wicked and divine
You may be a sinner
But your innocence is mine
Please me
Show me how it's done
Tease me
You are the one
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart
Please me
Show me how it's done
Trust me
You are the one
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart
But I don't want you to hide
It's cold and loveless
I won't let you be denied
Soothing
I'll make you feel pure
Trust me
You can be sure
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart
You trick your lovers
That you're wicked and divine
You may be a sinner
But your innocence is mine
Please me
Show me how it's done
Tease me
You are the one
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart
Please me
Show me how it's done
Trust me
You are the one
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
American Town

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
I agree with many of the comments above, but here is my take: He is captivated with a woman who has built a wall because of past hurt. She hides behind this wall (and perhaps unnatural actions, i.e., sarcasm, giving the impression that she is a sinner) in an effort to avoid being hurt again. He relates to her on a emotional level and wants to help her find happiness and comfort in love again. There is an emotional connection in this song that really touches me, it's a fantastic track.
As i started reading the comments from the beginning, yours is the best I read so far. As for the sexual note that many seem to find in this song, it might be true, but not without the strong emotional involvement that speaks from the lyrics and melody. Later on I read that apparantly it´s a song about an (ex) girlfriend of matthew, so then your intepretation makes even more sense.
Agree with the above.<br /> <br /> "I know you suffered<br /> But I don't want you to hide<br /> It's cold and loveless<br /> I won't let you be denied"<br /> <br /> She's suffered in the past in relationships, but doesn't want her to shut everyone off. Its saying that I know that where you are right now is cold and loveless, but it doesn't have to be that way and I can change that.<br /> <br /> "Soothe me<br /> I'll make you feel pure<br /> Trust me<br /> You can be sure"<br /> <br /> I'll take away the pain, and you can trust that I won't hurt you.<br /> <br /> "I want to reconcile the violence in your heart<br /> I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask<br /> I want to exorcise the demons from your past<br /> I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart"<br /> <br /> There is violence in her heart, to the point where past pain has driven her to push everyone away through whatever means necessary in order to not be hurt. Even with all of that, she is still an incredible person and has amazing inner beauty. Exorcise the demons: Help her trust and love again and be able to look back without feeling pain. Satisfy the undisclosed desires (can be taken sexually, of course), but I think that this speaks to him understanding that in her heart she craves more but is to scared to allow those desires to love and closeness to be disclosed to anyone.<br /> <br /> "You trick your lovers that you're wicked and divine<br /> You may be a sinner<br /> But your innocence is mine"<br /> <br /> She acts both ways. At times, she'll open herself up a little bit and allow someone in, and they'll see the 'divine' side of her. But, more often she keeps her mask up, and that mask is of a carefree 'wicked' girl. Her actions lead people to believe she is a sinner (by the puritan definition), but he understands that it is all an act she puts up to try and keep people away.<br /> <br /> "Please me<br /> Show me how it's done<br /> Tease me<br /> You are the one"<br /> <br /> Again, this could be taken sexually. But, it can be taken in another way as well. 'Please me, show me how it's done' - Make me happy, open yourself up, show me who you really are.. 'Tease me, you are the one' - She is teasing him by letting her guard down a little bit at a time, and even through those small cracks in her armor he can tell that she is the one.<br /> <br />
