I hope you make it through
I hope the sea is just as blue as our dream
We've got a long way to climb
Until we see what we've left behind

We wake to the sound of drums
And we are the soldiers of our own events
We are the keys to the kingdom
And we will never wear clothes again

You get up, move around
Every time you hear a sound
What do you expect to see
Every time you look at me?

I know this, is going to be alright...

Mercury summer
Mercury summer
In the afternoon
I hope you come back soon
Mercury summer
Mercury summer
You just take your time
I hope to see you

So how can you fall asleep
So close to the fire that is keeping us warm?
Sleeping out in the rough
Just let me know when you've had enough

You get up, move around
Every time you hear a sound
What do you expect to see
Every time you look at me?

I know this, is going to be alright...

Mercury summer
Mercury summer
In the afternoon
I hope you come back soon
Mercury summer
Mercury summer
You just take your time
I hope to see you

Mercury summer
Mercury summer
In the afternoon
I hope you come back soon
Mercury summer
Mercury summer
You just take your time
I hope to see you

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh oohh (x6)

Mercury summer
Mercury summer
In the afternoon
I hope you come back
Mercury summer
Mercury summer
You just take your time
I hope to see you

Mercury summer
Mercury summer
In the afternoon
I hope you come back soon
Mercury summer
Mercury summer
You just take your time
I hope to see you

I'm absolutely loving this track. It has a very summer popiness about it. Be Human looks like it's going to completely blow me away.

Not so sure on the meaning.

just heard this song. its ok not sure on the meaning i'm just worried that they've lost the awesome post hardcore sound that they had in grand unification and one day son. hope the whole album isn't so poppy.

Olp89, apparantly the album's a little more softer. There are definitely heavier tracks though. Damocles and Chemical Blood are supposed to be really heavy. I'm really looking forward to the new album.

I read somewhere it was a love song. Man, I'm so excited for the new album, only 5 more days. I hope this album doesn't make them too mainstream, after all they get enough crap from people who refuse to listen to them or acknowledge how good they are simply because Charlie was in Busted.

Calling All Stations, Colours Bleed To Red, Damocles and Chemical Blood are the most reminiscent of their older stuff and yes Damocles and Chemical Blood are heavy as fuck! Kind of like Deathcar and the rest are kind of poppy while still Fightstar, but to be honest I’ve only heard snippets of the songs that aren’t singles.

On closer inspection upon getting this album, it isn’t that poppy, sure its has same pop influences but I can’t see this putting them into the mainstream it has to many obscure and heavy moments to do so. Not sure if its as good as One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours, but I have only listened to once so I can’t really judge it.

    My Interpretation

This song really makes me think of my girlfriend, the lyrics sound to me like they're in a dubious relationship, but he is very confidant about it:

I hope you make it through I hope the sea is just as blue as our dream We've got a long way to climb Until we see what we've left behind ... I know this, is going to be alright...

And the chorus is all about him looking forward to the next time they get to be together.

The second and third verses seem to be about their fights, how "[they] are the soldiers of our own events" and "So how can you fall asleep, So close to the fire that is keeping us warm?" seems to say that she sometimes strays to close to the hot topics that cause the fights and can ruin the core of their relationship.

And that's about the gist of it, so far as I see right now. This is actually a very good song, I love it, even though I don't like Fightstar, it really surprised me!

My mate absolutely worships Fightstar, and she's like, had her photo taken with charlie simpson and knows every single word to every single song, and the new single that hasnt actually been released yet that she go off youtube and converted just so she could have it is now the most played song on her ipod. So yeah, she is pretty obssessed about fightstar. And she told me it was about shawshank redemption :) So I think that's what it's about (Y)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
