"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Bury all your secrets in my skin
Come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins
The air around me still feels like a cage
And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again
So if you love me, let me go.
And run away before I know.
My heart is just too dark to care.
I can't destroy what isn't there.
Deliver me into my fate, if I'm alone I cannot hate
I don't deserve to have you
My smile was taken long ago, if I can change I hope I never know
I still press your letters to my lips
And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss
I couldn't face a life without your light
But all of that was ripped apart, when you refused to fight
So save your breath, I will not care.
I think I made it very clear.
You couldn't hate enough to love.
Is that supposed to be enough?
I only wish you weren't my friend.
Then I could hurt you in the end.
I never claimed to be a saint
My own was banished long ago, it took the death of hope to let you go
So break yourself against my stones
And spit your pity in my soul
You never needed any help
You sold me out to save yourself
And I won't listen to your shame
You ran away, you're all the same
Angels lie to keep control
My love was punished long ago
If you still care, don't ever let me know
If you still care, don't ever let me know
Come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I also have to agree with all of you. When I heard the first few seconds of the song, the chords sounded a bit similiar to vermillion part 2. and i thought for a second it could be part 3 ("the goodbye song" quoting kacperator). This song has to be my fav on the album because it's hard to find a a song wth lyrics/vocals that genuinely parallels the singer/songwriter's own feelings.
"Bury all your secrets in my skin Come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins" She was probably the "light" and he was the "dark" in the relationship. as cliche as that sounds. As easily as she brought innocence and light into his life she quickly left along with it, to leave him with his demons.
"The air around me still feels like a cage" He still feels trapped in his feelings for her and can't grasp a hold of this new freedom. "And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again…" If you think about it. Hate isn't the opposite of love. "Indiffeence" is the opposite of BOTH love and hate. Love and hate are actually siblings, they are the same emotion and carry the same passion except for the fact that one is negative the other is a more positive feeling to state the obvious.
"So if you love me, let me go. And run away before I know. My heart is just too dark to care. I can’t destroy what isn’t there." I think he wants her to leave before he pulls her down with him too, kauffee. He loves her too much for her to be tainted and ruined by him and the relationship. He feels that the biggest form or act of love that any person can give is "scarifice". He's willing to sacrifice his own happiness for her to not get hurt.
"Deliver me into my Fate - If I’m alone I cannot hate I don’t deserve to have you… My smile was taken long ago / If I can change I hope I never know" It says it all.
"I still press your letters to my lips And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss" Says it all...
"I couldn’t face a life without your light But all of that was ripped apart… when you refused to fight" You can either "fight or flight". I guess he's asking her to "flight", flee from the relationship. But there's a sense that even though he wants her to leave for the sake of her not getting hurt by him, it kills him to ask her to since it's not what he wants her to do. What he really wants is for her to stay with him and "fight" through the battles and obstacles of the relationship. Make it work no matter how hard it might be.
"So save your breath, I will not hear. I think I made it very clear."
First off, great analysis!<br /> You pointed out a lot of things that I didn't see, so thank you for that.<br /> <br /> The only thing I feel I need to comment on is the very last part.<br /> <br /> "I couldn't face a life without your light<br /> But all of that was ripped apart, when you refused to fight"<br /> Rather than asking her to "flight", I think what's happening is after he proposed to sacrifice his own happiness for her to not get hurt, she didn't really oppose this. In some way, shape, or form, she communicated that she didn't care as much as he did. This hurt him more than anything because it proved that she did not value their relationship as he had. She "refused to fight" for their love.<br /> Just like you said, 'what he really wants is for her to stay with him and "fight" through the battles and obstacles of the relationship - to make it work no matter how hard it might be'.<br /> <br /> <br /> This interpretation leads to a twist in translation for the next line as well.<br /> "So save your breath, I will not hear. I think It made it very clear."<br /> I didn't know what to think of this line until I read a little further: "You sold me out to save yourself, And I won't listen to your shame, You ran away - you're all the same"<br /> That suggests that maybe things were getting to hard in their relationship - as could be imagined if one partner is coming to the relationship that their love is not enough to keep the relationship healthy - and she got scared. As discussed already, she more or less just left and didn't put up much of a fight. Now she's trying to either justify herself to him or just smooth things over. Either way, he's had enough now that he's seen her true colors, and she can just save her breath.
"Bury all your secrets in my skin<br /> Come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins"<br /> I think this line could also mean that she looks like the innocent one in the end, and he's the one left looking wrong bad, left with the sins because she "came away with innocence." He knows she's not all great because he knows her secrets, but that's not quite how it looks to everyone else. <br /> <br /> "So if you love me, let me go. And run away before I know.<br /> My heart is just too dark to care. I can't destroy what isn't there."<br /> I think he is conflicted between love and hate for her. That could explain the constant repetition of "love" and "hate" in the lyrics. He wants her to leave him for both his and her own good. But he doesn't want to be there when she runs away. "...run away before I know." The hate within him is telling him that he doesn't care, while he obviously does care because he doesn't want to "destroy" her. <br /> <br /> "I only wish you weren't my friend. Then I could hurt you in the end." <br /> I think this line is saying that because he cares for her, he can't hurt her. Even though he wants to hurt her, so she will hate him and leave him, he doesn't, because he cares for her.<br /> <br /> "It took the Death of Hope to let you go"<br /> I think he is saying here that he lost hope in his life, so because he lost hope, he could actually go through with trying to leave her. <br /> <br /> "If you still care dont ever let me know."<br /> He doesn't want to change his mind. He wants to remember her- only the good. "I still press your letters to my lips and cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss." But he doesn't want her to care because he doesn't want either of them to get hurt. He also doesn't want to know if she cares because he doesn't want it to inspire thoughts of her, which would make him feel love for her again- which would bring him rage. "And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again"<br /> <br /> "Deliver me into my Fate - If I'm alone I cannot hate<br /> I don't deserve to have you<br /> My smile was taken long ago / If I can change I hope I never know"<br /> He is obviously punishing himself for his misdoings. He believes that because of things he has done, although he cares for her, it is his fate to be alone. He doesn't want his smile to return because he doesn't feel he deserves it. He is punishing himself by purging his life of all hopes at happiness.
Just some of my own ideas and interpretations.
That was brilliant
Great insight it helped me I was thinking the same he doesnt want to bring her down to him and destroy her light. Everything probaly turns to ashes 5fdp.
I think this song is about the other person cheating, and I dont think he is the bad person I think she is...<br /> <br /> Bury all your secrets in my skin<br /> Come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins<br /> She's confessing her infidelities and she feels relived to get it off her chest, but now hes the one left to deal with what has happened.<br /> The air around me still feels like a cage<br /> And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again<br /> He feels like he needs to contain his anger (the cage) because he loves her so much <br /> <br /> So if you love me, let me go<br /> And run away before I know<br /> My heart is just too dark to care<br /> I can't destroy what isn't there.<br /> Deliver me into my fate<br /> If I'm alone I cannot hate<br /> he's so angry with her and filled with rage he wants her to leave now before he loses control because if she stays his hate will consume the both of them<br /> I don't deserve to have you<br /> My smile was taken long ago<br /> If I can change I hope I never know<br /> I think he's being sarcastic with (I don't deserve to have you) I think in the relationship she has done things in the past and he gave her another chance which is why he says (my smile was taken long ago) and with all the wrong doing she's done to him he doesn't want it to change the person he is which is why he says (if I can change I hope I never know) <br /> <br /> I still press your letters to my lips<br /> And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss<br /> I couldn't face a life without your light<br /> But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight<br /> he still loves and misses her very much because he didnt want to live without her but now he's forced to because she (refused to fight) temptation and cheated on him.<br /> <br /> So save your breath, I will not hear<br /> I think I made it very clear<br /> You couldn't hate enough to love<br /> Is that supposed to be enough?<br /> hes saying stop with all your excuses dont explain sht you dont know what love is, you dont have enough passion and emotion in you to know what its like to love so deeply<br /> I only wish you weren't my friend<br /> Then I could hurt you in the end<br /> self explanatory <br /> I never claimed to be a saint<br /> My own was banished long ago<br /> It took the death of hope to let you go<br /> he messed up in the past also but again he was forced to let her go because he just cant get over this<br /> <br /> So break yourself against my stones<br /> And spit your pity in my soul<br /> You never needed any help<br /> You sold me out to save yourself<br /> he's angry while he's listen to her saying how sorry she is but he feels she sold his feelings and their relationship out to save herself by her giving into temptation <br /> And I won't listen to your shame<br /> You ran away, you're all the same<br /> Angels lie to keep control<br /> My love was punished long ago<br /> If you still care, don't ever let me know<br /> *he's saying leave me alone I dont want to hear anymore of your lies that always control me to stay with you, (my love was punished long ago) the first betrayal (if you still care, don't ever let me know) hes saying hes weak to her and if she still loves him dont ever tell him because he might go back to her.<br /> <br /> I can relate to this song at the moment although the roles are reversed I'am the woman being cheated on.
I completely agree with your opinion about love/hate; they are intense emotions but are what bonds two people. I think it is indifference toward his significant other that he is talking about...at one point there was hope that their relationship would eventually work out, but once that hope was extinguished, he "can't destroy what isn't there" (love/hate). He wishes he could at least hate her so that he could walk away and not care the pain it would cause. However, like a platonic friend, he doesn't want to hurt her...not that seeing her suffer would affect him, just out of human decency.<br /> <br /> I get the feeling that through the course of the relationship she was actually the one who was indifferent and never truly cared for him and now that the roles are reversed, she is the "angel" who is granted the ability to twist the past to fit her current stanse...she get's to "sell him out." Geez there are so many hidden meanings in this song it would take forever to cover it all, but I agree a lot with DreamersDisease. <br /> <br /> About the death of hope and love and the wish that the other walks away because you are tired of being the bad guy.
