In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Stay, for awhile now
At least pretend
There's something more
Between the two of us
Deep secrets, if we must
Say, I didn't catch your name
So delicate, yet interested
In anything you say
When you look at me that way, you got me
This is never said, it's understood
You are the perfect compliment
This is the first time and the last time
I will ever keep you here in waiting
For the story to begin
Love is the slightest touch
If this was bliss, man, I'm ready
I hear the sparks fly
Hit the marker
Everything that drives me wild
Surprise, oh it's so right
Yeah
This is never said, it's understood
You are the perfect compliment
This is the first time and the last time I will ever keep you here in waiting
For the story to begin
If I could only breathe you in just one last time
I'm falling deeper, deeper now
Are you down?
Yes, I'm so down
Are you down?
Cause I'm down with you, too
This is never said, it's understood
You are the perfect compliment
This is the first time and the last time I will ever keep you here in waiting
For the story to begin
Ever keep you here in waiting
At least pretend
There's something more
Between the two of us
Deep secrets, if we must
Say, I didn't catch your name
So delicate, yet interested
In anything you say
When you look at me that way, you got me
This is never said, it's understood

For the story to begin
Ever keep you here in waiting
