Cling to each rock
The wind is not on our side
Not on our side
Not on our side
Pull yourself together its not much further
From the top on high
The smoke is finding its way to the sky
Not a place I want to be
Not a place that I want to be
She sits pale skinned in a fire light
One message to change her mind
One message to change her life forever
One message to change her mind

He climbs over the top
No breath No breath
In his weak sick lungs,
She starts to run
to the edge at last it's over

Cling to each rock
The wind is not on our side
Not on our side

She lays beside him
His eyes so weak
He can't even make her out
But his body feels good
All around him
She whispers something in his ear
That he takes to the grave
To the grave,
And now

Hours pass before they reach the top,
before they reach the top,
Hours pass before they reach the top,
before they reach the top.
Shes waiting x8

Cling to ___, The wind is not on our side, Pull yourself together it’s not, ?not forever?

?From the top, on high? The smoke is finding its way into towards the sky, Not a place I want to be, not a place I want to be, She sits bare skin in the fire ?line/light?, One message to change her mind, One message to change her life forever, One message to change her mind.

    ???

Cling to each ___ The wind is not on our side...

She lays beside him, his eyes so weak, He can’t even make her out, but his body feels her, All around him, she whispers something in his ear, That he takes to the grave, to the grave…

?And hours pass?, before they ?even talk? Before they ?even talk?, before…

    She’s waiting.

This with I Still Feel Her: Part I are my two favourite songs off the album. I think they are about a man who is running to find a girl he loves to save her from inside fire but I don't think it's in a building. A forest fire maybe?

(First few quotes are from I Still Feel Her)

"When does the moonlight end The smell is so faint But it must be the one"

Maybe the smell is the smoke from the fire?

"Do I have the strength To go on Smoke begins to fill my head But still I press on"

I think this is when he has gone into the building and is looking for her as the smoke is all around him but he is battling to carry on.

"Shes waiting Shes waiting Shes waiting I feel her Shes waiting"

He knows she is in there somewhere waiting as he can "feel her".

"Cling to each rock The wind is not on our side Not on our side Not on our side Pull yourself together its not much further"

This carries on from the end of I Still Feel Her, it's him battling to find her but it seems like everything is trying to get in his way. Or maybe when he mentions the wind he means that it is making the fire more intense. This bit makes me think it's not a fire in a building as it mentions clinging to each rock as if he is climbing somehwere.

"The smoke is finding its way to the sky Not a place I want to be Not a place that I want to be She sits pale skinned in a fire light"

This is the bit that most hints at a fire. He has found her in the fire and she sits 'pale sninned' in the firelight because she is scared?

"One message to change her mind One message to change her life forever One message to change her mind"

I think this means that he has not told the girl he loves her yet or something.

"He climbs over the top No breath No breath In his weak sick lungs, She starts to run to the edge at last it's over"

This bit also hints at it being a forest fire or something. This is when he finds her and she runs to him.

"She lays beside him His eyes so weak He can't even make her out But his body feels good All around him"

In this bit her has found her and they are lying together. His eyes are weak because of the smoke but even though there are in a terrible situation, his body feels good because he is with her.

"She whispers something in his ear That he takes to the grave To the grave, And now"

Maybe she tell him she loves him too and then they die together?

"Hours pass before they reach the top, before they reach the top."

Before they reach heaven? Not too sure.

Anyway, it's an amazing song. That's what I think but I could be wrong.

Very haunting lyrics.. Im guessing he digs this girl and he's trying to figure out what to say to her to fix it? "Cling to each rock The wind is not on our side" - Enjoy the time thats left, were bound to fail

"She sits pale skinned in a fire light One message to change her mind One message to change her life forever" - He wants to make it work

"He climbs over the top No breath No breath" - couldnt pull it off

"She starts to run to the edge at last it's over" - There finished

    taken from Jonny himself:

Part 1, and Part 2, are essentially a story about a couple who nobody wants together...

Part 1 deals with the shock of finding out that nobody wants them together, and the male wondering if the female will stick with him through all the hate, and the male asking, then deciding that the female means enough to him to fight for

Part 2 deals with the fight to sustain the relationship through everybodys disapproval but how they overcome this to stand together at the end....

So as jamesgc said, this is about a couple who no body wants together.

"Cling to each rock The wind is not on our side Not on our side Not on our side Pull yourself together its not much further From the top on high The smoke is finding its way to the sky Not a place I want to be Not a place that I want to be" I believe this section is about how all the obsicules they have to go through. He's saying, 'Hold on, everything will be better in the end. Although people don't believe in us, I do. Don't give up on me.'

"She sits pale skinned in a fire light One message to change her mind One message to change her life forever One message to change her mind" Now in the section, she's having second on her and his relationship. It's getting hard. She's just on the edge.

"He climbs over the top No breath No breath In his weak sick lungs, She starts to run to the edge at last it's over" Here, he's doing everything in his power to keep her by his side. She's pretty much lost hope.

"Cling to each rock The wind is not on our side Not on our side" Again, he's telling her 'Please stay strong.'

"She lays beside him His eyes so weak He can't even make her out But his body feels good All around him She whispers something in his ear That he takes to the grave To the grave," She's giving him some more hope, but even he can see there's no hope left. She tells him she loves him.

"Hours pass before they reach the top, before they reach the top, Hours pass before they reach the top, before they reach the top. Shes waiting..." They still struggling, but they love eachother so they keep trying.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
