I know you and I can't believe you;
When you say you give, when given to.
I called you in, I know you won't be
Offering your care and making me;
I need you and you know I'm only
Cautioned to the wind when it's blowing.
I called you in, I know you won't be
Offering your care get me out of here soon

I'll be heading out, hunting season here soon,
You go be a girl, I'll go searching for food,
You take care of him, I'll take care of;
You take care of him, I'll take care of..

How I'm suppose to know that?
How I'm supposed to know?
How I'm suppose to know that?
How I'm supposed to know?
How I'm suppose to know that?
How I'm supposed to know that you need me?
How I'm suppose to know that?
How I'm supposed to know?

I know you did your talking with me
As a trophy head, it's so easy.
I know you when, I let you get me,
Chase me to my death while I'm wasting.
I called you in, I know you won't be
Listening to the wind; when I'm leaving.
I give to you, I don't know what
It's going to take me to get you out of my sight

This is what I've been waiting for the red light
You go be a girl I'll be leaving tonight
You take care of him, I take care of;
You take care of him, I take care of..

You know you did, you held on for too long
You know you did, you held on for too long
You know you did, you held on for too long
You know you did, you held on for too long

    My Interpretation

    There are levels of interpretation of this song; it's why us as listeners can connect so easily I think.

    Literally, its pretty clear: Meric starts out describing the nature of his dream. There is a certain, time and place for its occurrence, but also how quickly it leaves. As suddenly as it comes, it goes. He goes on to describe the distances that separate himself from 'her'. He knows they're in two different places now, two different conditions. The next few lines I think describe the manifest content of the dreams. He crosses desert sands alone to see her, while dreaming of memories of the times they've been together, their first meeting, their final moments. And he wakes up in a 'cave', no air, no light, no shade, left only with the sentiments of longing for her.

    And everything else: I don't know if its just me, but I think there a many Biblical references; clearest 'Eden', 'heathen', but I also think the use of the cave. Waking in the cave; almost like the resurrection; a place of no air, light, shade: a place devoid of life, comfort. Perhaps these dreams 'resurrect' his feelings, and his memories, perhaps an old self.

    This idea of resurrection an old self gives me the sense of the cyclical nature of the song. The way he describes this dream is of a re-occurrence, like the season that evokes it. And like the seasons, which come with time, so too will his feelings. And yet,'This times for real, we're even//We do this for the season', a contradiction, we're done with but we'll do this once more...

    This is all interpretation obviously, but the final feeling of isolation, of loneliness is the strongest message; He finds himself alone in his dream, only to wake and find himself alone again. Such a dead sudden ending from a flood of life and emotion.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
