I don't know if its just me, but I think there a many Biblical references; clearest 'Eden', 'heathen', but I also think the use of the cave. Waking in the cave; almost like the resurrection; a place of no air, light, shade: a place devoid of life, comfort. Perhaps these dreams 'resurrect' his feelings, and his memories, perhaps an old self.
This idea of resurrection an old self gives me the sense of the cyclical nature of the song. The way he describes this dream is of a re-occurrence, like the season that evokes it. And like the seasons, which come with time, so too will his feelings. And yet,'This times for real, we're even//We do this for the season', a contradiction, we're done with but we'll do this once more...
