"Details In The Fabric" as written by and Dan Wilson Jason Mraz....
Calm down
Deep breaths
And get yourself dressed instead
Of running around
And pulling on your threads saying
Breaking yourself up

If it's a broken part, replace it
If it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart then face it

And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
And everything will be fine

Hang on
Help is on the way
Stay strong
I'm doing everything

Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

Hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way

And everything, everything will be fine
Everything

Are the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling?

Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
Of faulty manufacturing

Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Everything

Hold your own
And know your name
Go your own way

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling? (Go your own way)

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic (Go your own way)
Is it Mother Nature's sewing machine?

Are the things that make you blow (Hold your own, know your name)
Hell no reason go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault (Go your own way)
Of faulty manufacturing

Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Hearts will hold

General Commentwhat about the words to the phone call in the beginning?
anyways it's a really pretty song. great lyrics and vocals
    i love this part:
"If it's a broken part, replace it
If it's a broken arm, then brace it
If it's a broken heart, then face it"

i think the meaning of the song is that you shouldn't make someone your everything. you should always "know your name"; never become what someone else wants. just basically don't let a relationship become everything because when it's over, you have nothing. i hope that makes sense... anyone else have any ideas?

General Commentof course i dont have a clue where i read this now, so i cant verify that its true...

apparently Jason's friend had just broken up with his girlfriend, and these are real messages that he left, the second a few hours after the first. the song is a response (obviously not a direct response, he probably wrote the song a while after) to the first message, where his friend thought his whole life was over because things fell through with this girl. and the song is telling him to be strong and stop freaking out over one little detail and look at the whole fabric of his life instead

General Commentthis song means more to me than i could ever imagine that a song could... brings me into so many emotional levels... i know this may not be completely how jason mraz wrote this song but, this is how i interprate it...

    Calm down
    Deep breaths
    And get yourself dressed instead
    Of running around
And pulling all your threads and
    Breaking yourself up
**this truly is the only way to drag yourself up some mornings... but in the end you need to face your own reality...**

If it's a broken part, replace it
But, if it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart then face it

    And hold your own
    Know your name
    And go your own way
    Hold your own
    Know your own name
    And go your own way
**the most valuable advice one can give on life...**
    And everything will be fine
    Everything will be fine
    mmmhmm
**true... eventually. everything happens for a reason. you may not see the reason right now but in time you will**

    Hang on
    Help is on the way
    Stay strong
    I'm doing everything

    Hold your own
    Know your name
    And go your own way
    Hold your own
    Know your name
    And go your own way

And everything, everything will be fine
    Everything

All the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic.
**don't hesitate too much on the little details... if you sweat the small stuff it can easily turn into big stuff...and why worry about something so insignificant either...**
Are your thoughts results of static cling?
**Ever find yourself just clinging onto stupid little thoughts? Or do those thoughts cling themselves onto you?**

Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
    Of faulty manufacturing.
**whatever it is that makes you get out of control whether it be anger, addiction, depression, or even just a little pet pieve that may might you tic, the reasoning behind it is not your fault, there is no reason to get all build up about something that was uncontrollable. take things as they come and make best of what is dealt to you.**

    Yeah everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
    Everything

    Hold your own
    And know your name
    And go your own way

All the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling? (Go your own way)

Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic (Go your own way)
Is it Mother Nature's sewing machine?

Are the things that make you blow (Hold your own, know your name)
Hell no reason go on and scream
If you’re shocked it's just the fault (Go your own way)
    Of faulty manufacturing

    Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
    Hearts will hold

the way mraz put this song together melodically and verbally is one of the most amazing things i've ever seen. since the day i first heard it, it can easily bring me to tears as corny as that might sound, but its true. this song can mean so much to anybody i believe, whether it be a small dilemma you are dealing with or a life crisis. jason mraz you never seize to amaze me.

    My InterpretationCalm down, deep breaths
    And get yourself dressed
    Instead of running around
    And pulling on your threads
    And breaking yourself up

This stanza (I think) is about rebounding after something bad happening. It's about being in the stage of shock and beating yourself up about something that has happened.
"get yourself dressed" (to me) is not literal. It means to be proactive and resiliant and rebound after something bad happened. Instead of walking around in PJ's, get dressed and ready for the long day.

If it's a broken part, replace it
If it's a broken arm, then brace it
If it's a broken heart, then face it

Pretty self explanitory. face it. its what you have to work with, so work with it, not against it.

And hold your own, know your name
    And go your own way.
Hold your own, know your name
    And go your own way.
    And everything, will be fine.

"hold your own know your name" is saying to be strong and know who you are and remember who you are and stay true to it even in the toughest times.

All the details in the fabric
All the things that make you panic
All your thoughts, results of static cling
All the things that make you blow
Ain't no reason, go on and scream
    If you're shocked,
It's just the fault of faulty manufacturing
    Everything, will be fine
    Everything, in time
    Everything...

This part is about lots of things going wrong and some one being under a lot of stress. And they are mainly over reacting. In the end, everything with be okay.

General CommentThis song is about knowing thy self. It seems to be a rough time for the person in the song. Maybe they just had a break up. You must always remember to "hold your own" and "know your name." In other words put yourself first before anyone else. I love when he says "are you're thoughts the results of static cling." I feel this means we attract everything to ourselves, our thoughts are projected in reality. This a perfect song for moving on from love or a relationship. As long as you know yourself and support yourself everything WILL be fine!!!

General CommentFrom what I can tell the person on the phone has lost everything in an apartment fire and is completely lost. From what I can tell Jason helped this person get through and, from the last phone call, it seems like they pulled through and are personally thanking Jason. The song itself is along those same lines - detachment.

What I find beautiful about this song are Jason's choice of chords. I knew in the first two or three seconds of this track how it was going to pan out emotionally. A stunning wee track.

General Commenthere's what i can get for the message...

saved message: hey, what's up? uhh, i just lost it. at the end of the day, i f*cking lost it, just blew up. my whole entire f*cking apartment building, i told everyone to go f*ck themselves. i just had a hard time today and uh, i don't know.

    and the last part...

new message: yo what's up man? i, uh, i don't know man. i just wanted to say that, uh, you know, everything's made up. i mean everything's, everything will always be f*cked. can't stop being funky. but i guess we just deal with it how it comes, deal with the humps, take the jumps. i feel like, you're an island of reality in an ocean of diarrhea. and i love you buddy. ok. bye.

also, i think the correct lyrics are

Are the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling?
Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
    Of faulty manufacturing.

...basically, the word "are" instead of "all"

General CommentI am currently suffering OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and this song always calm me down whenever I get my daily anxiety.

For me, the first part is the best. Especially because OCD cause great deal of anxiety that can make your body shivers. And his words, "Calm down... Deep breaths... Get yourself dressed instead of running around..." and "Everything will be fine..." mean a lot to me.

If you read this, Jason Mraz, you've helped a person through your song. Thank you :)
