Don't push me out
Just a little longer
Stall your mother
Disregard your father's words

Close the laundry door
Tiptoe across the floor
Keep your clothes on
I've got all that I can take
Teach me how to use
The love that people say you made
(Teach me how to use)
(The love that people say you made)

Stop your parents' car
I just saw a shooting star
We can wish upon it
We won't share the wish we made
But I can't keep no secrets
I wish that you would always stay

Last night I dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
I spent the whole day
I wrote 'em down, but it's a shame
(Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)
Tonight I'll burn the lyrics
'Cause every chorus was your name
(Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)

Break this tired old routine
(Break this tired old routine)
And this time don't make me leave
(And this time don't make me leave)

I am a breathing time machine
(I am a breathing time machine)
I'll take you all for a ride
(I'll take you all)

I am a breathing time machine
(I am a breathing time machine)
I'll take you all for a ride
(I'll take you all for a ride)

Break this tired old routine
(I am a breathing time machine)
And this time don't make me leave
(Leave)

i think this is about love that you can't have. someone you care about who cares about you too but for some reason you can't be together.

"Stop your parents car i just thought you'd ignore We can wish upon it but we wont share the wish we made But i cant keep no secrets, I wish that you would always stay "

They're both wishing the other will stay (he can't keep his wish secret) but for some reason it's either not okay or not right for them to be together.

That's why he has to burn the lyrics, every chorus was someone's name that he isn't supposed to be thinking of. No one can know he wrote those songs, and there is no point in singing them because it's a useless battle.

Haha. That's what I think but it's probably biased because that's the situation I'm in right now. :)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
