She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaining, saying "I can't wait to turn eighteen"
She said "I'll make my own money and I'll make my own rules"
Mama put the car in park out there in front of the school
And she kissed her head and said, "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In her one bedroom apartment and her daddy stops by
He tells her, "It's a nice place"
She says, "It'll do for now"
Starts talkin' about babies and buyin' a house
Daddy shakes his head and says, "Baby, just slow down, 'cause"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
And she keeps apologizin'
He says, "They don't bother me
I've got two babies of my own
One's thirty-six, one's twenty-three
Huh, it's hard to believe, but"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

You're gonna' miss this
Yeah
You're gonna' miss this

I always get super-emotional at that line with the plumber talking about his children. I don't know why, but it touches me!

i like this song, because a lot of teenagers are in a rush to grow up. and I was, and now I'm about to graduate high school, and I'm saying "where did the time go??" so, now I'm trying to not take life for granted and not try and grow up too fast. because before ya know it, I'll be out in the real world, making decisions for myself. and its scary to think about. so, i really relate to this song a lot.

yes! I just almost cried listening to that part when the plumber talks about his kids. This song literally converted me to country music. I absolutely love it.

I just left my small northern california town, and am now going to an urban 4-year university, and this song gets me so sad!. Im only about an hour and a half's drive from home but i still miss all my family and friends and it makes me so sad that my days of being young and stupid are over. This song always touches me...

Why these country song always makes me cry?!?lol

Somestimes I can't help but be envious about you guys having such great singers singing songs just like this one. In Philippines we do have some good stuff to, but nothing to compare specially to this Trace Adkins' "You're Gonna Miss This"

This song is so true. I just finish my first year of college and boy I remember what high school was like and how much I hated it, but it was a lot easier than some of the things I have to do now. It's been more than a year since I been a student at my old high school and sometimes I wish I could go back and do it all again. I miss it..but I don't at the same time.

    My Opinion

Wow, this song makes me almost cry! It's soo true, and really made me realize something. I'm in Jr.High, Grade 8, and for the past year or so, I've been saying "I wanna grow up so I can get out of school, become a veterinarian, live in my own house..the dream life. But this song made me think.. and told me not to take life for granted. Not to sweat the small stuff. And someday, I'm gonna want to be young again, so enjoy life. :)

This song is so true! It's like he's saying "You may be in a rush to grow up, but, one day, you will want this all back, so you need to enjoy it while you can."

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
