In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Little Annie Vickers is boarding up windows
And her old dog is stranded on the Silos
Hey there, Annie, don't even think it
So much water and you can't even drink it
Well, maybe by Christmas they'll dig up the roads
Take whatever you can, girl
Leave the rest for the crows
Leave the rest for the crows
Been livin' in Crawford for fifteen years
Nothin' much ever happens 'round here
And no one believed the water would come
Till the sky grew dark and it swallowed the sun
And it rained for forty-two nights and forty-two days
And everything that we loved is floatin' away
[Chorus]
How long till our dreams run dry?
Don't know but we're stayin'
On our knees we raise our eyes
Holdin' on and prayin' to find
One blue sky
Mrs. Wilson sits with an insurance adjuster
Big city boys - she never did trust 'em
Have you been gettin' the letters I'm sendin'?
'Cause the preacher swears that the world is ending
Well, if there's no way out, wish someone would show us
We keep looking around here for some modern day Moses
[Chorus]
Now we're diggin' our heels hard as we can
But the backyard looks like the Rio Grande
And I wonder, will it wash us clean or wash us away?
[Chorus: x2]
One blue sky
And her old dog is stranded on the Silos
Hey there, Annie, don't even think it
So much water and you can't even drink it
Well, maybe by Christmas they'll dig up the roads
Take whatever you can, girl
Leave the rest for the crows
Leave the rest for the crows

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
When you take this song at face value, it just seems like it's about a flood in a small town: "And it rained for forty-two nights and forty-two days." And the whole town is kinda stuck and just praying for "one blue sky." But, it seems like it might have a deeper meaning, I'm just not sure what it is. Anyone else?
This song was written by Kristian Bush, Lisa Carver and Jennifer Nettles. From what I've heard, Lisa likes to throw controversial/political meanings into her lyrics. That being said, it seems ironic that this song parallels current events from the past few years. <br /> <br /> "How long 'til our dreams run dry<br /> Don't know but we're staying<br /> On our knees we raise our eyes<br /> Holding on and praying to find<br /> One blue sky<br /> <br /> Now we're digging in our heels hard as we can<br /> But the backyard looks like Rio Grande<br /> And I wonder will it wash us clean or wash us away"<br /> <br /> <br /> The obvious is Hurricane Katrina where it rained for about 40 days...which left people waiting for "One Blue Sky". The line "Maybe by Christmas they'll dig up the roads" reflects the lack of aid given to the affected areas. "Take what you can, leave the rest for the crows" is exactly what happened...the looting and trying to survive for those that could not get out or chose to stay and protect their belongings.<br /> <br /> Crawford,TX , ironically, is also President Bush's hometown. <br /> <br /> And it has also been said that Annie Vickers is a fictious character made of Jennifer's childhood friend's name and the Sugarland bass player's name - Annie Clements.
