Yeah, well, I'm just gonna sing this track first

I've seen the darkest things
Crawling inside of me
I've seen the monsters come alive
I've seen the enemy
A nightmare that follows me
Searching the darkness for a light

Waiting for daylight to break up this room
Waiting for daylight to break
I've been alone in the dark
I've been dreaming
And waking up without you
I've been waking up without you for too long

Back in the tragedy
I've made a mess of me
My bitter means, my bitter ends, yeah
I see the irony
It gets the best of me
Dying to be made new again, again

Waiting for daylight to break up this room
Waiting for daylight to break
I've been alone in the dark
I've been dreaming of the day
When dreams are awake
The sun hits my eyes
And everything is right
I've been waking up without you
I've been waking up without you
I've been warning alarms
Till you are in my arms
I've been waking up without you
I've been waking up without you for too long

Waiting for daylight to break up the room
Waiting, waiting
I've been alone in the dark
I've been been dreaming of the day
When dreams are awake
The sun hits my eyes
And everything is right
I've been waking up without you
I've been waking up without you
I've been warning alarms
Till you were in my arms
I've been waking up without you
I've been waking up without you for too long

This is a song that Switchfoot released free to their fans this week. It is presumably going to be on the their new album that comes out before the end of the year. I can't really pinpoint what I like about it, it's just a generally good song.

I really like the idea of a primarily acoustic fast song, and I like the more raw, less conventional sound.

As for meaning, Sin and Redemption anyone? The theme of darkness inside and light breaking in seems to be a good illustration of this, and Switchfoot doesn't usually take relationships in this light, as it would be a little overly dramatic to be about a guy and a girl, at least based on Switchfoot's previous lyrical style.

So, I'm going with Sin and Redemption.

    I love this song..

Sin and redemption? maybe. I think it's a song about the return of Christ.

"I've seen the enemy A nightmare that follows me Searching the darkness for a light" The enemy looks for believers (lights in the darkness) to attack.

"Waiting for daylight to break up this room" Christ's return could be seen as daylight breaking up a dark room (the world).

"I've been waking up without you for too long" The singer desires God, and is tired of his life on earth without him in person.

"I've been alone in the dark I've been dreaming of the day when dreams are awake" He's looking forward to the return, aka the "day," which could be interpreted as both daylight or the day of the return.

Anyway thats how I look at this song.. sin and redemption might fit as well but either way, beautiful. Can't wait for the new album.

Could be Christ's return, but the wording seems more inward to me, i.e. "I've seen the darkest things crawling inside of me." It's basically saying the same thing about Christ coming, but I'm just thinking the inward language througout the songs seems to more likely denote Christ coming inside of him specifically.

I don't know if they were ever planning on putting on there, because they did put it out for free. However, that list he is holding is from the mixing sessions. It might not have "Daylight to Break" on there because they already mixed it and released it. So it could still be on the album.

This song is actually quite unique to me... i think john foreman intended this song to be taken with two meanings.

one is the mistakened "aww its about a guy who lost his lover and is saying that hes the one who made all the mistakes and wants his lover back"

the intended meaning was the average switchfoot religious meaning. pretty much the singer states that christ is like the wife hes been waking up without for so long. i think that John Foreman sees the end coming if not soon then sometime within the next 100 years.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
