I'll approach you and wait, it's been several weeks coming
and I'd give it up, give it away
to be able to tell you how I really feel
and how I'd give it up to hear you say
cause were counting the seconds and minutes weve spent here
cant seem to just throw you away
when it's all said and done dear and were packing our things
will the memories keep me thinking?

so where do we go when its all over
and will you be coming back, coming to me?

cause I've been waiting here to declare a new meaning
to feel the way I do and it just happens to be
one of the things that I'd like pretend
cause I know you cant stand
when I wake up, hold on to your hand and I'm sorry I'm not strong enough
to let go of the things that I love way too much

come to me and I'll tell you the story
of how I became the way that I became
set aside all the things that youve heard in the past
have reasons but I'm still the same.
light my way back home cause I'm feeling so alone

then theres you, I'm tired of waiting
when are you coming back, coming to me?

cause I've been waiting here to declare a new meaning
to feel the way I do and it just happens to be
one of the things that I'd like pretend
cause I know you cant stand
when I wake up, hold on to your hand and I'm sorry I'm not strong enough
to let go of the things that I love way too much

light my way back home cause I'm feeling so alone
light my way back home cause I'm feeling so alone

cause I've been waiting here to declare a new meaning
to feel the way I do and it just happens to be
one of the things that I'd like pretend
cause I know you cant stand
when I wake up, hold on to your hand and I'm sorry I'm not strong enough
to let go of the things that I love way too much

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Page

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
