Laid back
Laid back
Laid back, we'll give you laid back
Laid back
Laid back
Laid back, I'll give you laid back

Over and over and over and over and over
Like a monkey with a miniature cymbal
The joy of repetition really is in you

Under and under and under and under and under
A spell of repetition really is on you
And when I feel this way I really am with you

Laid back
Laid back
Laid back, I'll give you laid back

Over and over and over and over and over
Like a monkey with a miniature cymbal
The joy of repetition really is in you

Under and under and under and under and under
A spell of repetition really is on you
And when you feel this way I really am with you

I started thinking I knew what I had to do (tell you)
I got to thinking that I mean just what you do (tell you)
I started thinking I knew what I had to do (tell you, tell you, tell you)

This song is an attack on critics who slated Hot Chip as "repetitive" and "boring" on the release of their first album.

Isn't it quite obvious this song is about sex, rather than some attack on music critics? Since most of the songs on the album seem to be about the end of a relationship and the hard work of getting back on one´s feet sfter a breakup, this one sticks out a bit, focusing on the immediate physical pleasures of sex. "When I feel this way I really am with you", I think is a way of saying that sex can be a means to experiencing a deep sense of closeness between two people, but at the same time it's so primal and in a way stupid, like a monkey with a miniature cymbal...

i defdef thought it was about sex which made it all pretty and sexy and i made me like it even more. but i think it could be a jab at critics' comments and i think it's cool that it can be interpreted in more than one way.

I respectfully disagree with the above comment. Hot Chip is the shit! I love the repitetion of the song, and it's totally self-aware. Plus the monkey imagery is great. The spelling bee breakdown at the end of the song makes me wish I could get into spelling bees, their the hottest thing on earth.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
