"Hardly Wait" as written by and Polly Jean Harvey....
I can hardly wait
I can hardly wait
I can hardly wait
I can hardly wait
It's been so long
I've lost my taste
Say angel come
Say lick my face
Let fall your dress
I'll play the part
I'll open this mouth wide
Eat your heart

I can hardly wait
I can hardly wait
I can hardly wait
I can hardly wait

Lips cracked dry
Tongue blue burst
Say angel come
Say lick my thirst
It's been so long
I've lost my taste
Here Romeo
Make my water's break

In my glass coffin
I'm waiting
In my glass coffin
I'm waiting

General CommentOne of my favorite PJ Harvey songs ever... such a great song about long-awaited, long-needed sexual gratification, and not by yourself. Amazing song, with extremely minimal percussion, loud guitar, and heartfelt vocals.

General CommentI think it's about the anticipation of having sex after a long dry period. :D

My InterpretationI believe it was Sleeping Beauty, not snow white, who was in the glass coffin.

Which makes me lean more towards the 'looking-forward-to-long-awaited-sexual-gratification' meaning, rather than anything to do with anorexia.

It's been so long, she feels like Sleeping Beauty waiting for that kiss to bring her back to life.
The rest is just metaphorical imagery.

General CommentI've always gotten the impression that this story refers to Snow White. Haha.

General Commenti think it's actually "Romeo, make my world as great".

anyway, it seems to me this song is about anorexia. people with eating disorders often dream of being in a glass coffin. the lines "it's been so long/i've lost my taste" and "open this wide/eat your heart" are also evocative of that theme.

fantastic song, and i especially enjoy the grotesque imagry of "lips cracked dry, tongue blue burst".

General CommentThis song is clearly about her lack of yearning and then a resurgance of her appetite. Now, you can't listen to the song and read the lyrics without knowing it's about sex, but it's very much about food as well. I think the comments about anorexia and the long awaited sexual act are BOTH correct; the feelings are so similiar it's easy to confuse the two. If you talk to any anorexic, they'll often bring up sex, whether they don't have it, don't like to be touched, haven't had sex in a noticable amount of time, etc.
Let's remember, 'Sleeping Beauty' was awaiting a kiss and it was an apple that caused her eyes to close.
