Religion changed the face of man, thou shalt not kill, we all are gone
The seed of ignorance is born thou shalt not think, thou shalt conform

The pigs order us to follow orders and obey
The flies drink the decaying nectar of their tortured effigy

Cling to wasted beliefs and visions and bathe in apathy again
No solution, the retribution of spiritual sickness begins

The legacy of suffering is through, the guilt we bear shall not tear us in two

Born we are the same, within the silence, indifference be thy name
Torn we walk alone, we sleep in silent shades
The grandeur fades, the meaning never known

If nothing in the world can change our children will inherit nothing

Born we are the same, within the silence, indifference be thy name
Torn we walk alone, we sleep in silent shades
The grandeur fades, the meaning never known

---Solo: Loomis

The pigs call for pure submission and fall into the fray
The lonely hunter beats his shallow drum, the soundtrack of world disarray

Cling to wasted beliefs and visions and bathe in apathy again
No solution, the retribution of spiritual sickness begins

Born we are the same, within the silence, indifference be thy name
Torn we walk alone, we sleep in silent shades
The grandeur fades, the meaning never known

If nothing in the world can change our children will inherit nothing

    Religion.

    Submission, fear, hate, ignorance, hypocrisy.

Reaching out instead of reaching within.

born we are the same torn we walk alone

how we should all be the same as we are born the same but the world is corupted and forces us to live pointless lives of hate that can only bring more coruptness to the world

the thinking mans enemy is religion...the mindless brutes force us to believe. they see no reason, they feel no remorse for the nonbelievers, and they say we are the heretics, arrogant knaves. they contour there god to fit what they want as if god were a clay statue. looming over the horizon smiting the sinners.

be what you want to be and not what they want you to be. they can burn in their own hell. i shall just float away into the nothingness. and i shall live my life without the chains of humanity weighing me down

i have said my peace..good day

Anti-Religion. My Christian friends REALLY hate this song. It makes so many valid points and opens your eyes. Just because somebody has different beliefs than you, that does not make them inferior. They are the same as you, Born we are the same. Religion has blinded us into believing that one group is far superior and everybody else is going to that one aforementioed group's hell. Typically, Christians are the chief offenders, but that is not always the case.

GREAT, GREAT metal song... i can't remember the last time i heard a metal song sound so good and technical and have intelligent lyrics at the same time. I just got into nevermore, their repected, but brutally underated... I just hope they get the attention they deserve... and i'm also looking for bands with a similar sound (thrash/prog WITH SINGING!!!!)

Mr. Dane seems to like making attempts at trying to explain religion and how terrible it is. Considering it is apparent that he was not raised under any religion, nor has any type of expertise in the field of Theology, it seems appropriate that his philosophical world views should stem from what he sees when he turns on CNN at night. Still, how this makes him an anti-religion spokesperson is beyond me. Maybe he should step away from the LSD for a while, and realize that not only his views on spirituality are being destroyed because of it, but also his brain cells.

To FlamesofNibelheim: Your Christian friends are hardly Christian. Turn off the TV and stop allowing the the media to brainwash you into despising religion. People like you are the main reason why this world is the closest to it's end than it has ever been. Do you think it's a coincidence that there is a direct correlation between secularism and the threat of armageddon? Put 2 and 2 together.

To blink182sux: Religion's main purpose is to liberate it's followers from your "chains of humanity." By choosing against religion, you are submitting to society, to the government, to the law, which chooses how you will live, forces you to abide, and limits your actions and philosophies by threatening your freedom. Yet you still claim you are not weighed down by anyone. Unless you are a complete nihilist, you will always have a god: man. Enjoy your void of nothingness, it has left you to a shallow existence full of meaninglessness.

As Einstein suggested, to claim that there is no God (while existing in a universe that limits us to three dimensions) is nothing short of lunacy.

Do not blame religion for the actions of certain individuals who have acted in it's name.

hello blackened! please keep your dogmatic bigoted beliefs limited to annoying people in real life with fliers and impersonal witnessing. oh, and quoting Einstein out of appropriate context...how appropriate for a Christian! He didn't believe in a personal God, but rather he said "It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly." Being an atheist means you are completely self sufficient and devoid not of morality or purpose, but of delusion.

I think this song is actually about the failure religion has had to help pacify our world.

hello sinten! ever heard of free speech? deal with it.

I'm just glad you are upholding your atheist status by telling others not to display their beliefs while you go and do the very same thing.

Einstein said what he said. There's books out there, which you have never read, and never will.

Being an atheist means your life has absolutely no meaning, no matter what is claimed. Helping others is done completely in vain, life is hopeless, suicide is necessary, but never carried out due to fear. Your pal Nietzsche said so himself.....are you too afraid to accept your entire doctrine?

i'm sorry, blackened, but you're kind of a moron. you can believe whatever you want, but you're wasting your time antagonising nevermore fans. don't like atheism? think it's "a meaningless life?" fine. but shut up. you don't even make any valid points. dissapointing.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
