There Are Two Types Of Men On Our Mother Earth
Some Have All The Luck Some Just Live In Dirt
There Are Several Types Of The Colour Of The Skin
But What's Crucial Is To Lose Or Win
You Feel So Alive Where The Eagles Cry
And You Feel So Strong On A Mountain High
But In Fact You Are At His Bottom Just
His Unattainable Top Seems To Be A Must

We Will Stay Down
Down Where We Belong

And The Rain Keeps Knocking On Our Mother Earth
And The Snow Keeps Falling Is It Really Worth
To Live Through This Ache And To Die At Last
When You're Predestined And The Die Is Cast
Our Thoughts Are Fading In A Time That Melts
Our Flesh Is Fading As We've Always Felt
But We Kid Ourselves To Meet Heaven's Feast
To Rise Up To God And To Be Released

We Will Stay Down
Down Where We Belong
You Belong To Us To The Human Scrap
Which Will Never Win And Succumbs In Traps
That Are Set By Others With Deceitfulness
And You Stumble Into With Thankfulness
No One Knows If We Are To Survive The Storm
But I Tell You Man You Are Just A Worm
Just A Little Error On A Hopeless Crust
You Are Sleazy Man And Your Limbs Will Rust

We Will Stay Down
Down Where We Belong

"There Are Two Types Of Men On Our Mother Earth Some Have All The Luck Some Just Live In Dirt"

The two types of men are about class struggle and antogonistic class dichotomies.

"There Are Several Types Of The Colour Of The Skin But What's Crucial Is To Lose Or Win"

There are two important points here.

    1. is that while race and other loosely defined groups may exist in the minds of people, but

as they have little physical basis should be of no significance to actual success.

    1. is the cruciality of losing or winning. That is to say that regardless of anything else,

there are 2 races you are in, one biological and one social, both interconnected on various

levels. To win the biological race is to successfully pass your genes on to a reprudoctively

capable generation. To win socially is to do one of two things: either gain (or maintain) a

position in the ruling class, or to lead the previously oppressed class to power, in fact

    winning for all of humanity.

"You Feel So Alive Where The Eagles Cry And You Feel So Strong On A Mountain High"

These are fallacies that have to do with emotion and power. "aliveness" is not determined by

a "feeling" but rather by the phsycial activity in your body and brain. Political power is

not determined by phsycial position and the feeling such a position evokes, but by action

including the enforcement of ideas and methods of interpretation of ideas. Phsycial power is

determined by the constitution of your body.

"But In Fact You Are At His Bottom Just His Unattainable Top Seems To Be A Must"

Those fallacies in the last passage are then addressed here directly justifying the previous

analysis. Regardless of feeling and position indivuduals, classes, or humanity as a whole

hold, the simple fact is that there is no higher power to be reached, that in fact the level

of power and life wished for by most humans is but an unattainable fantasy.

"We Will Stay Down Down Where We Belong"

In your attempts to succeed and gain power and "aliveness" don't attempt to rise above human

potential because it will only end in failure. It is also representative of the futility of class struggle in our current time, but as we

will see do not give up hope in purging humanity of the various errors of power structure.

"And The Rain Keeps Knocking On Our Mother Earth"

Nature continues existing and working at all points in time and space, there is no stopping

    it.

"And The Snow Keeps Falling Is It Really Worth To Live Through This Ache And To Die At Last When You're Predestined And The Die Is Cast"

The snow is a reaffirmation of natures dominance and continued existence, for even with our

superior mental faculties to manipulate nature that does not change the nature of the

universe in the least bit. The ache is that of the struggle to survive that you must live

through(and possibly personal negative emotions all must experience). to "die at last" speaks

of the inevitability of death, which will be revisited in a few lines. Here we come to one of

the core ideas of the song, that of predistination. This is not fate per se, or destiny, but

rather the predestined nature of your processing of information. All humans begin their lives

with a genetic equation for processing information through the brain. With every element of

information one obtains and processes it addes to the equation. In this sense all decision

making and action on the part of a human being is the result of a self-modifying algorithm.

The algorithm is unmistakably of both biological and social deterministic nature, and one may

not break from this with any "free will" regardless of how much they want to believe they

can. This functioning of consciousness and action is then the "die" that is "cast".

Now we come to the core Ideas of the song:

"Our Thoughts Are Fading In A Time That Melts"

Time is continually moving forward, our thoughts are only held within our minds and fade with

time and disappear with death. It follows then that you must replicate your thoughts in some

manner, just as you must your genes. Your memes, the ones which you determine as advantageous

to the species and to our various modes of discourses and thinking should be recorded, either

in reproducible media such as book or video, or transferred to another mind, although the

memetic transfer through the medium of mind is unstable and does not preclude thought from

    fading with that holder.

"Our Flesh Is Fading As We've Always Felt"

Again about the temporary nature of our being. Our inevitable mortality is emphasized here.

Of course we have known this since childhood when we encounter death for the first time. THis

is, just like the above passage, related to the "lose or win" of the first verse. Genetic and

Memetic winnings are supreme and of the utmost importance.

Now we come to what we know rudy ratzinger has much to say about, religion, especially its

    relation to life and society:

"But We Kid Ourselves To Meet Heaven's Feast"

Those that believe in an afterlife have reduced this single life that we have to a waiting

period fo the afterlife. They kid themselves with the fallacies and misconceptions about the

universe. We want so badly to believe that we will ignore rationality, evidence, and truth to

feel comfortable with our mortality through the lie of immortality. The prevailing thought in

the religious world is that if you cannot solve the problem then just pretend it doesnt exist

or lie about the solution. THis is the opposite of science, reason, rationality, and truth.

"To Rise Up To God And To Be Released"

Again, a continuation of the last line and referring to much of the first half of the song.

"To rise up to God" another "kid" to make ourselves feel better and to explain what we donot

understand and what we fear, it is also contributes to the illusion that there is a power

above humanity that is attainable. The world is full of these "kidders" the ignorant, the

religious, the believers in mythology and purpose.

"We Will Stay Down Down Where We Belong"

Don't attempt to rise to a level entirely unattainable, this time put on by religious belief.

The following is a message to those that maintain the fallacious practices and beliefs

mentioned in the previous verses: "You Belong To Us To The Human Scrap"

Of course those that believe they have some spirit, soul, or superiority are terribly

mistaken. The "human scrap" is in reference to two levels. One being that of the Oppressed

class, the other being that of the human species as a whole. There is nothing inherently

superior about homo sapiens in relation to other species. The present cross section of

biological evolutionary history is a vast array of genotypes all of which have been equally

    successful at survival, at "winning".

"Which Will Never Win And Succumbs In Traps That Are Set By Others With Deceitfulness And You Stumble Into With Thankfulness"

This is to say that those that don't recognize their belonging to the sub-species of homo

sapien sapien, the "human scrap" will ultimately never win. Their thoughts(memes) will fade

with time, and their flesh(genes) will lose in the arms race of genes if their ideas continue

to the point of self destruction. People work to to deceive in their attempts to gain power and understaning. The deceive about

power structures when imposing belief systems on the masses so they can control them. They

deceive about reality and nature in promoting beliefs about such things based on religious

faith.' Here is also the well known saying that "ignorance is bliss" people love to believe that

which is untrue so they can feel secure, they are "thankful" for their 'faith' which is

simoultaneously the source of their peace of mind and their greatest weakness, again relevent

to the "angst" that must be lived through in the previous verse, those that "kid" themselves. THis is in essence the major problems with humanities approach to life and reality summed up

    in a few lines.

"No One Knows If We Are To Survive The Storm"

The struggles for survival, both genetic and memetic are not teleological. The storm is that

of all events which affect our survival which we may or may not forsee.

"But I Tell You Man You Are Just A Worm"

A darwinian idea, many times put forth by critics as absurd, but it is none the less the

truth. There is nothing "special", "divine", or otherwise inherently different on the

biological level between man and worm. Those that attack biological evolution are those that

are uncomfortable with their place in the universe, and again they usually "kid" themselves

and thankfully fall into traps to feel better about themselves.

"Just A Little Error On A Hopeless Crust"

The "edge of chaos" idea behind evolutionary systems, the error being the series of events

leading to your existence is in fact not planned but simply happenings. Again an attack on

teleology and specisist superiority. The insignificance of the crust of our planet in

relation to the universe and its inevitable demise are something ignored by many of religious

faith and superhumanism, as they hold there is something "divine", "special", or otherwise

    inherently exceptional to our existence.

"You Are Sleazy Man And Your Limbs Will Rust" The final line of the final verse tells us much in its simplicity. Many a street preacher,

ignorant fundamentalist, and new age spiritualists are attacked here. Those that refuse to

accept the truth of their situation as a homo sapien, an animal with potential for

rationality but not for supernatural ability are sleazy, they are detrimental to our species

and our society, but ultimately they are self destructive. Their limbs can refer quite

literally to the death and degradation they will esperience in their lives, and there is no

cleaning the rust off in an after life. But more importantly this might be interpreted as

their rational faculties and survivability, both genetic and memetic, being rusted. These "sleazy" people should not be respected as thinkers but should be respected as people, and to

help their thinking they should be educated on their situation in the world as previously

    mentioned.

We Will Stay Down Down Where We Belong

Obviously don't have some speciest superiority complex. Don't attempt to rise to a level that

does not exist. Don't try to deceive others or be allowed the be deceived by others about

    your situation.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
