Since day one I've been crass and far beyond
I couldn't laugh, I couldn't cry
Before you judge me, take a look at yourself
Condescending, outliving in a lie

Despite all the pain in my heart grinding through
It ain't due that you hate what I hate what you do

Despite all the piety you've been consuming thus far
A backstabbing motherfucker to the bone is what you are

And every day when the knife in my back starts to twinge and turn
My eyes are catching fire and my heart starts to burn
One foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven
Then again it's like being needled twenty-four seven

You look down to me to see the scum of the earth to be
Fuck yeah, that's me, vile and obscene
I ain't happy about it but at least I don't judge and decree
To be better than another human being

Every day when the knife in my back starts to twinge and turn
My eyes are catching fire and my heart starts to burn
One foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven
Then again it's like being needled twenty-four seven

Despite all the piety you've been consuming thus far
Can anyone, somebody tell me what the fuck is going on?

Every day when the knife in my back starts to twinge and turn
My eyes are catching fire and my heart starts to burn
One foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven
Then again it's like being needled twenty-four seven

"Death? What do you all know about death?"

First of all, punklefester, ur a complete fag. "Most metal today is emo"? what the fuck? And if u think that metal heads are emo then u dont know anything about music. non-pussy music that is.

With that out of the way, I think this song is about being different and hating people that dont accept u.

punklefester....are you serious? death metal > emo

2nd of all, metalheads, unlike yourself, dont wear tight pants...so get your sh1t right.

3rd of all, metal=angry, loud, tough, while emo=urself, sad, whiny, bitchy.

4th, this song is probably be who you are, and forget everyone else

melodic death metal has nothing to do with emos, or that genre... so punklefester i fail to see where u come from with those comments

My favourite COB song; basically sums up how the singer wants to be more accepted, but at the same time loathes and rejects the two-faced, snobby nature of most people.

My fave song from COBHC. I think it's about the duality of anticonformancy. The line "a foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven, but then again it's like been needled 24/7" i think is saying that getting away from society's confines is good but then it's just not worth the trouble. Alexi rocks!

This and follow the reaper are my favorite CoB songs, Alexi is a great vocalist and an amazing guitarist, but sometimes there lyrics become quite senseless

it seems senseless to some people, but sometimes the lyrics can only be understood by its creator. it really takes a lot of understanding to understand. yea, Alexi is a fucking amazing vocalist. Melodic death metal is the best metal =)... My opinion on this particular song though, is Alexi saying that the supposed "god" judges people based on what they do for other people and how GOOD they act, and Alexi is vile and obscene and being close to god is like being needled 24/7.

I'm not too sure what this song is about apart from "being pissed off"(alexi's words at the concert) but the first time I heard it I thought it was about some chick from the lines..."A foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven, then again its like being needled 24/7" I think that the girl is like a drug...When he's with her he doesn't necessarily want to be but when he's away from her that's all he thinks about/wants.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
