Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
Who would steal on sunday?
Who'd made them believe make believe?
Who'd buy a prayer when you can pray for free?
If the way you drank your coffee was the way you looked at me,
Then I could take both my hands off the tv.
I've been sleeping on half of my bed lately,
And thinking about what you said to me,
'you're tipsy, you're turning, you are alive, you are burning.
Lisa, won't you listen?
The moon shines for you.
You're tipsy, you're turning, you are alive, you are burning.'
A sweet man will sing a seafaring song,
And a dear, strong woman coos gently along.
Good guys at the cozy are servin' folks for free.
Did you ever notice there are so many people in bands in the city?
I've been sleeping on half of my bed lately,
And thinking about what you said to me,
'you're tipsy, you're turning, you are alive, you are burning.'
And I will not judge you by the way you play your instrument.
No, that's true as fiction, sometimes I do,
But the moon shines halfway sometimes too.
Lisa, won't you listen?
The moon shines for you:
You're tipsy and turning, you've got one foot on the floor.
You're alive, you are burning.
You always wanted more.
Who'd made them believe make believe?
Who'd buy a prayer when you can pray for free?
If the way you drank your coffee was the way you looked at me,
Then I could take both my hands off the tv.
I've been sleeping on half of my bed lately,
And thinking about what you said to me,

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Quote from Lisa Loeb:
"I guess this is a country-western song. It involves confusion about spirituality, and where you can actually find true spirituality. The song starts out "Who would steal on Sunday?/ Who'd make them believe make-believe?/ Who'd buy a prayer when you can pray for free?" That's in reference to televangelists who steal money from their congregations. Sometimes where you most expect spirituality, turns out to be where there is none. If more people had real love in their lives, they'd stop searching for religion in the wrong places. It's also about finding spiritual comfort in daily things, in being in a band, in the ups and downs of life, etc."
The moon shines for you. You're tipsy and turning, you've got one foot on the floor. You're alive, you are burning. You always wanted more. Usually I scoff at music like this, but that line made me approve wholeheartedly of Lisa Loeb
psh! scoff at lisa loeb! I could see how that's possible BUT she's the best person that you could scoff at and enjoy simataneously. I like this song, even if the meaning is not always clear. Its a good sing along song
