The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I judge by what she's wearing
Just how many heads I'm tearing
Off of assholes coming on to her
Each night seems like it's getting worse
And I wish she'd take the night off
So I don't have to fight off
Every asshole coming on to her
It happens every night she works
They'll go and ask the DJ
Find out just what would she say
If they all tried coming on to her
Don't they know it's never going to work
They think they'll get inside her
With every drink they buy her
As they all try coming on to her
This time somebody's getting hurt
Here comes the next contestant
Is that your hand on my girlfriend?
Is that your hand?
I wish you'd do it again
I'll watch you leave here limping
And I wish you'd do it again
And I'll watch you leave here limping
There goes the next contestant
And I even fear the ladies
They're cool but twice as crazy
Just as bad for coming on to her
Don't they know it's never going to work
And each time she bats an eyelash
Somebody's grabbing her ass
Everyone keeps coming on to her
This time somebody's getting hurt
Here comes the next contestant
Is that your hand on my girlfriend?
Is that your hand?
I wish you'd do it again
I'll watch you leave here limping
And I wish you'd do it again
And I'll watch you leave here limping
There goes the next contestant
I'm hating what she's wearing
Everybody here keeps staring
Can't wait 'till they get what they deserve
This time somebody's getting hurt
Here comes the next contestant
Is that your hand on my girlfriend?
Is that your hand?
I wish you'd do it again
I'll watch you leave here limping
I wish you'd do it again

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

GREAT SONG!!! i got the album today, and this song is how i feel about my gf, everyone keeps trying to come onto her, and i'm over protective sometimes, so i wanna bash any guy who touches her, but yes, this song is about a guy who is very over protective of his gf
All i gotta say is : Someone has jealously issues lol
though i do not blame him one bit, its human nature
I was saving up for this album, then my sister goes and buys it. Oh well money for me i guess. I think its every bit within his right to be a jealous bastard. The chorus of this song is a bit funny though. Is that. Your hand. On my. (etc etc.) that bits a little wierd but still i love the song, kinda obvious what its about
this song is quality, another classic NB song, throw bac to the CURB days, still they are the most under rated Rock band in the UK
Boy do you have the lyrics messed up. I have no idea where you got them from, but on the CD, it is completely different.
theres also an album version.
Really awesome song. Its a bit blunt on the jealousy issue, but he does it very well, its almost scary. ^^ All in all the album rocked more than i thought it would, no offense, but Photograph brought my hopes down alot. --'
