In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall
We used to love while others used to play
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by
Someone else moved in from far away
Now we are tall, and Christmas trees are small
And you don't ask the time of day
But you and I, our love will never die
But guess we'll cry come first of May
The apple tree that grew for you and me
I watched the apples falling one by one
And I recall the moment of them all
The day I kissed your cheek and you were mine
Now we are tall, and Christmas trees are small
And you don't ask the time of day
But you and I, our love will never die
But guess we'll cry come first of May
When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall
Do-do-do-do-do, do-do do-do
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by
Someone else moved in from far away

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
This song was sung by robin Gibb and truely enough it was about the memories of his first love. The song is so beautiful and the words are honest and true.....What agreat song so sweet and true
It was written by Barry, but not about his first love,as many people believe. But about their first dog, which arrived on the first of May.A beautiful song, wonderfully written, to be interpreted as if it were about young love, or even brothers or sisters. Very well done.
@JoseyWales So, why singing... But guess we'll cry come first of May?
Today is the first of May! I immediately thought of this song... one love.
what does he mean by:"but guess we'll cry come first of May"
@jeronderon did someone die then? Or perhaps it was the end of their relationship?
@jeronderon Their puppy love likely started when he kissed her on the cheek under the apple tree on first of May (Apple season?). Sentimental and a bitter sweet song...
I would just like to clarify that the vocals were done by BARRY Gibb on this song, not Robin Gibb.
Estão enganados amigos... Não há nenhum cachorro ou história de um primeiro amor do Barry!! Na verdade ele escreveu essa canção a pedido do diretor do filme Melody Fair após ler o roteiro.
Still don't know why guess we'll cry come first of May??????
