Jason Mraz – On Love, In Sadness Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It is based on a poem by his friend Jenny Keene http://www.commonpleasure.org/page.php?20 Woe, love is brittle and falsified, so? All might not be well, so We'll all lay awake at night and pore over rain listen in like sin this melancholer, it exists pale and fine I can't dismiss so flippantly though I'll try till I die love, and it's ghostly indecision shall thinly through hallways and rivers, unwinded endure |
Jason Mraz – Tonight, Not Again Lyrics | 9 years ago |
This song is based on the following poem by Jason's friend Jenny Keene http://www.commonpleasure.org/page.php?20 The night rested her dry hand on my flushed cheek- It smelled of Childhood remnants of dusted weeping willow and sunbaked chaparral sage The Clouds, wisped and shredded by calico Cat claws were vast and quick (I imagined them sweeping past your plate-glass- was the past night on your thoughts?) This time, like every other time, I had believed I would never fall for another Sweet Boy with sequined seafoam eyes ocean-lapping voice Smile coy and luminescent as the widest constellation and the clouds giggle and wag like silvered eyelashes- as they slice the vacant-eyed Moonface asunder because here I am (once again) (not the last time) unable to inhale all of the evening's niches and solaces awkward, a purple wound to the bone of the neighborhood park cobblestone-jointed and silhouette-sea blooded All by myself tonight. (again.) |
Fleetwood Mac – Tango In The Night Lyrics | 9 years ago |
The theme seem to be similar to ''Big Love'' - both songs focus on feeling lonely when being home alone, after losing (or refusing?) his ex-girlfriend and being in need for intimicacy / sex: ''I wake up with all that'' and ''tango'' being a passionate dance of two lovers. I love both songs dearly but it's so f*cking sad. |
Laura Marling – Alpha Shallows Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this is the best song of the album. Amazing. |
Laura Marling – The Beast Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I always got the idea that this song is about her deciding to sleep with someone but knowing that is was not a good idea, but doing it anyway. Of course it could be symbolic, or fictional. |
My Chemical Romance – Teenagers Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I always thought this song was about the US recruiting the kids for the military. Also because of the video. |
Racoon – Liverpool Rain Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this song is about them performing or tourning in England and being sick of it, probably because of the rain or that they were just very tired, or didn't see the point anymore. In the end the hero in the rain is probably the Racoon fan at the concert, whom he will ''stand by forever, doing it in vain''. The fans are ''putting a smile on his face once again''. I think it's a song dedicated to the fans who keep going to concerts, even when it's not a good day, or when they don't really feel like performing, or when it is literally raining (probably in the Netherlands as well, because it rains there a lot as well). |
Elbow – One Day Like This Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I thought the same, yes. I think it is wonderful, that line. <3 |
Gossip – Get a Job Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this is about her (girl) friend who's not working. That is all. |
Kelis – Acapella Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I thought this song was about her baby, because it seems so fitting to what people often tell about what happens when you get children. I found this song very very touching. But my mum told me that she said in an interview that this song describes how she feels when she is in love with someone. I also think that you can intepret this song as religious, or someone finally meeting their biological mother/father/sibling. It could be about anyone. |
Katy Perry – E.T. Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I don't think it's about the doctor but who cares! I love Doctor Who so I'd love to think this is true :D |
Katy Perry – E.T. Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Uuuh... one word. TEN. <3 |
Scissor Sisters – Self Control Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Seems like this is about a friend or partner who is addicted or thinks about suicide. Or about a partner who is too scared to start a relationship. I don't know. |
Scissor Sisters – Return to Oz Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I heard it's about drug use in the gay community. ''We've fled the world With smiles and clenching jaws'' Some drugs give you clenching jaws, e.g. XTC. |
Scissor Sisters – Keep Your Shoes On Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Any chance this is about sex workers? |
Lady GaGa – Marry the Night Lyrics | 11 years ago |
To me this song is about overcoming your own fears by being faced by them and come out as a stronger person. |
Lady GaGa – So Happy I Could Die Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I love this song so much. It makes me freaking sad, but it's so beautiful. |
Marilyn Manson – Cake And Sodomy Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Isn't cake just a reference to a vagina? |
Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this song is about Russian (communist) history and the Cold War. Some famous (communist) leaders got cities named after them, although this already happened in the history of the tsars. It also seems to be about the U.S (hence the name of the song) and how they perceived Russia. ''It's contagious'' is about the fear of America for communism. ''And though our parts are slightly used New ones are slave labor you can keep"" I think this shows how Russia thought about America in the cold war: you can tell us that democracy is better, but we don't want this ''slave labor'' when everything is about money and people get a bad salary for something that is like slave labor. |
Scissor Sisters – Sex and Violence Lyrics | 11 years ago |
To me it seems to be about a man who knows he had a tendency to go too far. He feels like he can't control himself, he needs (persuasive) sex and violence in his life. |
Scissor Sisters – Harder You Get Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is obviously about a night of long, intense sex, probably from the perspective of a bottom. One of my favorite lyrics are ''Can't have one, you want them all'', probably referring to his lover that wants him to have multiple orgasms. |
Scissor Sisters – Inevitable Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song seems to be highly romantic to me. He knows that his boyfriend will get restless some day and try to get away from him, to forget him. He don't want that to happen. Although the lyrics do seem to be a bit spooky when you read them, the music sounds soft and romantic to me. |
Scissor Sisters – Baby Come Home Lyrics | 11 years ago |
To me it seems like it's about an open relationship or a relationship in which both persons try to take the relationship lightly, but the protagonist finally has to admit that he/she just wants to know where his lover is hanging out and wants him/her to return home. I do wonder about this part: Maybe one red letter day There’ll be no more chips to play When you come home |
Gabriella Cilmi – Don't Wanna Go To Bed Now Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it's about her wanting to go out badly. |
Regina Spektor – Long Brown Hair Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yes. I read the book and ''I wasn't even her first (one'' is literally in the book. |
Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I am in the same situation. Divorced parents, family that let me down since I was young... it's hard to trust people. It's even hard for me to trust my friends, but I'm getting better at it. I hope I will have my colourful ending in the future as well. |
Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I have the same opinion on this song, but it might also be because this song describes how I am - I've never allowed myself to give myself fully in a relationship because I am so afraid of heartbreak. This song always makes me cry because it speaks to me so directly. |
Scissor Sisters – Invisible Light Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It seems to be about The Neverending story and how Moonchild keeps her kingdom together with her ''invisible light''. Maybe they call it that way because it's the opposite of The Nothing, which is described as ''it's like you're blind when you look into it''. Will you answer to a new name? It changes all the time I’ll call you anything you want If I can say it’s mine The story’s never-ending Our footprint’s been erased and I thought I saw you laughing Ten feet in the air Doesn’t matter if they touch you where they cut you Can you give me An invisible light To keep me alive Electric all the tension I can feel it with the fingers in my mind |
Regina Spektor – All the Rowboats Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I would like to hear that recording as well! |
The Dresden Dolls – Coin-Operated Boy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Why? |
The Dresden Dolls – Shores of California Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think this is absolutely a satire. They wrore First Orgasm as well, so it's not like she thinks that no woman masturbates. I think the very unusual poppy sond and the videoclip contribute to this satire. In the video you see schoolgirls writing down what Amanda teaches them: she teaches them the stereotypes. Look at Amanda, look what she writes, what she covers, what kind of music she makes. Not your typical woman, right? Whatever a typical woman might be. |
The Dresden Dolls – Shores of California Lyrics | 12 years ago |
If you look at her other lyrics, I think it's fairly easy to state that this is indeed a satire. I mean, since she made a song about a masturbating woman she clearly isn't dumb enough to think that woman don't masturbate. She probably already knew that from personal experience like we all do... The video clip is also clearly a satire. |
Regina Spektor – Chemo Limo Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think so, yes. |
Regina Spektor – Chemo Limo Lyrics | 12 years ago |
First time I hear it and God I'm crying. What a beautiful song. It's very sad, but at the same time I'm just happy that she took the effort to write this song. Cancer happens to many people. |
Regina Spektor – Ballad of a Politician Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It could be about Bush and the conspiracy theories about 9/11: ''you're gonna make a boom/you're gonna makes us scream''. Some people think that he arranged the fall of the Twin Towers to have an excuse to start the wars. |
Regina Spektor – All the Rowboats Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I adore the topic of this song. I never really thought about it but I can imagine someone would think like that. I love museums but it's absolutely artifactual. The line ''The most special are the most lonely'' is really good. I think it also applies to celebrities, e.g. Michael Jackson. |
The Goo Goo Dolls – Here Is Gone Lyrics | 12 years ago |
That makes a lot of sense - also the cocoon and the moth in the end are a symbol for puberty I think - growing up. But still I don't think all the lyrics make sense in that way. |
Jack White – Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think you got that right. I think ''Hypocritical Kiss'' is about her as well, and in that song he says that he knows they both have their faults. He always spoke very loving of Meg, he also often said what he admired about her. I can't imagine he really doesn't like her anymore. |
Katy Perry – Firework Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Thats nice information! Maybe he inspired her/learned her to realize her full potential, or he taught people to do that. |
Katy Perry – Firework Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I like her voice and her music, but I agree on the point that she can slow it down a little in being half naked most of the time. |
Katy Perry – Firework Lyrics | 12 years ago |
yes, I felt the same! |
Katy Perry – E.T. (feat. Kanye West) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's about him as well. I think he's one hell of a guy. |
3OH!3 – Starstrukk Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think the same about the meaning of this song. I also think it's very relevant for this generation. |
The White Stripes – Blue Orchid Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think that's a very good intepretation actually! |
Foo Fighters – The Pretender Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's absolutely political. |
Jack White – On and On and On Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's about Jack going for a night stroll (maybe mentally) and trying to think of what he has to do now, probably after his break with The White Stripes and his divorce. I think it also sounds a bit like what you have in a mid-life crisis... |
Jack White – Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's anger towards Meg. I guess he's more ambitious than she is, but like I read in one of his interviews about Megs role in The White Stripes: ''it's more like what she leaves out than what she puts into it'' (the band). I think Jack has mixed feelings about Meg: on one hand I think he admires her because she doesn't feel the need to do ''all the things he doesn't have to do'' and on the other hand, he just finds it lazy, probably because he's so different from her that he doesn't understand why she's not more ambitious. |
Jack White – Sixteen Saltines Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I found this to be a hard one. I immediately thought of Meg because he mentoioned their typical colours: white/black/red. I just got the album today and I must say that I'm so happy to hear his voice again that I got all emotional! I've been a White Stripes album for seven years now and his music means a lot to me. It is really a shame that they split up, but when I read on their website that loving message to the fans I was convinced it was for the best. |
George Michael – They Won't Go When I Go Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think this song is about friends and people you trust lying to you. |
George Michael – Praying For Time Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Listen Without Prejudice is one of the best albums that I own, together with a Led Zeppelin album. It is incredible how talented George Michael is. I think this is one of his best songs. I thinkt he lyrics are pretty self explanatory. |
