Of Monsters And Men – Organs Lyrics 9 years ago
This song exhumes a profound sadness.

The narrator reflects on how a past relationship (or several, or several instances during one relationship?) goes tragically awry.

She is tired of trying to change her actions because those changes always prove futile.

So the only thing that she has left to do is fundamentally rip herself apart. Specifically, the parts that have to do with how she communicates. Because she leaves her heart, for fear that if she gets rid of it, she wouldn't remember her heartache and therefore would risk making the same mistakes again. She doesn't want to be reminded of the pain, but she wants to remember that it existed and that it was dreadful.

Truly, a powerful piece of music. I am loving this entire album but this song shot almost all the way to the top of all of their songs for me upon my second listening. You can HEAR her pain throughout the entire song. It pulled my heartstrings and made me sad for her.

Frou Frou – Only Got One Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with the last 2 people who commented in that it's more than just telling someone to live life to the fullest.

This song reminds me of an old friend, especially the part that says, "Are you down to be open? Show me yours and I'll show you mine. Or are you down just to be down? I don't believe the words you sing sometimes." He really was down just to be down because he filled himself up with so much despair that he didn't know what to do with himself. All he could think about was how miserable he was. He could hardly think about my own feelings sometimes.

I think in the refrain, the singer is almost discouraging "living life however you want" when she says, "It's your life, but you've only got one." She's giving this person a warning and is encouraging the idea that life shouldn't be wasted by moping. Yes, bad things happen, and no, not everyone who you love is going to love you back, but that's not an excuse to make yourself miserable.

Paramore – Misguided Ghosts Lyrics 14 years ago
When I first heard this song, I was definitely reminded of Regina Spektor. It's the way she sings, "Run from them, from them" and in a couple other parts. I couldn't put a finger on what else it reminded me of and when people on here said Death Cab, I figured that was right on.

I think this song is about how she doesn't want people to follow her while they're going through life, because her aim isn't perfect. She keeps going in circles, and as a result, the people who treat her like an idol (to use an extremity) keep going in circles as well.

In general, when we put too much faith in a person, we all become misguided, empty ghosts. We shouldn't be dependent of people like that. We shouldn't strive to be ghosts, either. That's just who we are now because we don't know what to do with ourselves.

Imogen Heap – Canvas Lyrics 14 years ago
I live with someone who paints and she says that she starts all her paintings with a black canvas. However, she always has to paint the canvas black because it starts off as white. In relation to the song, the black canvas is the person starting the project but not knowing what to do after the first step. I agree with cynthiacynthia's interpretation about how being an artist isn't easy. I'm not a painter but a writer, and for me I can start a story, but a lot of times I feel like scrapping an idea because I don't like where it's going or I just can't think of anything else that makes sense to me. It's a metaphor to how we live our lives.

This is one of my absolute favorite Imogen Heap songs, and probably my favorite on Ellipse.

Regina Spektor – Human of the Year Lyrics 14 years ago
Icons are pretty big in Roman Catholicism (I know because I am Catholic), but unlike what a lot of people say about us, we don't actually idolize these icons; they're just there to remember holy people who have gone before us and they're made of gold out of respect and reverence, but not for worship.

Perhaps they're previous "humans of the year?"

Collective Soul – Fuzzy Lyrics 14 years ago
It's pretty obvious to me that it's about a hangover too, but when I listen to this song sometimes, the album name (Rabbit) kinda pops into my head and I think about how rabbits are fuzzy. So then I see rabbits hopping in a field. I know it's weird, but that's what I think about.

I just think that it's cool how they use the word "fuzzy" in the first place, when they could have used, "blurry" or "delirious" or "forgetful" or some other lame synonym. Fuzzy is just a funny word to me.

Imogen Heap – Bad Body Double Lyrics 14 years ago
I also think that this song is about a side of yourself that you don't like, possibly hate or despise.

I love the way she describes it all. I think we all have a 'bad body double' of sorts, or at least had one at some point.

My favorite part is when she describes what her double looks like. It's so specific.
