"Canvas" as written by and Imogen Jennifer Jane Heap....
Slow heart dark wait down love black canvas
Revolve within, you understand
Fragile earth where cracks in the temperature
Keep it cool to give, you understand
Keep it cool to give, you understand
Slow heart dark wait down love black canvas
Revolve within, you understand
Fragile earth where cracks in the temperature
Keep it cool to give, you understand

'Cause I just can't find the strength to pull you up and keep you taut
No I just can't find the strength to hold you up and keep you taut

Hijacked lost track light fades another day left
Long shadows lure you in
The more you look the less you see
So close your eyes and start to breathe
Oh, suit yourself, this wasn't easy
Mm, suit yourself this wasn't easy

Oh, I just can't find the strength to pull you up and keep you taut
No, I just can't find the strength to hold you up and keep you taut

Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo
Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo
Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo
Da-day-hay
Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo
Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo
Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo
Da-dada-ho

'Cause I just can't find the strength
To keep you taut.

General CommentI live with someone who paints and she says that she starts all her paintings with a black canvas. However, she always has to paint the canvas black because it starts off as white. In relation to the song, the black canvas is the person starting the project but not knowing what to do after the first step. I agree with cynthiacynthia's interpretation about how being an artist isn't easy. I'm not a painter but a writer, and for me I can start a story, but a lot of times I feel like scrapping an idea because I don't like where it's going or I just can't think of anything else that makes sense to me. It's a metaphor to how we live our lives.

This is one of my absolute favorite Imogen Heap songs, and probably my favorite on Ellipse.
