I actually thought the begining part was about her considering suicide. "You swear you recall nothing at all, that would make you come back down. You made up your mind to leave it all behind" that's like she's standing on a drop, ready to fall, and she can't think of anything good to come back downn to... in the end she doesn't do it, so she's forced to keep on living "You're forced to fight it out" I don't think it's necisarily about a boyfriend/girlfriend... it could be about anything. An ex- boyfriend that she ended with badly, or a bad childhood, or any kind of mistake. She should have let go, rather than running away from it, but she's run so far now, that it keeps following. |

Such a powerful song... I think, or my personal interpretation, is it's about someone who's done you and other people so wrong, they almost become the bane of your existance. You're the survivor, and you carry on going through life just to prove them wrong, to get revenge. Make them regret what they did to you. I am the one who crawled through the wire There's a million sad stories on the side of the road Strange how we all just got used to the blood -- She's the one who survived it all, but she's seen people who's spark just died after what this person did. But people/the world becomes so de-sensitized, so used to seeing the suffering and aftermath and unfairness around them, they don't notice it anymore. I know a cold as cold as it gets I fight a war I may never see won I live only to see you live to regret Everything that you've done -- She's seen the darkest of everything, and has come through the other side. Now she's carrying on, fighting a 'war' against this person who's ruined so much, but she knows she might never find them or tell him, or get to finish it and make them regret all the hurt and destruction they caused. |

| I felt like it was about her just being so tired of everything going on, all she wanted was to have somewhere she was happy, someone who would look after her, hold her down from going too far, but at the same time love her and give her freedom. I think she's talking about either, knowing she's going the wrong way in life, but going anyway, "away from everything i used to know.... the way my mother told me not to go" or whether she's trying to pull herself AWAY from there. she's already gone down the wrong road, and is trying to lead herself away from it again. But I might as well say what It means to me: I think its about being so far under, depresed or something like that, that you just can't hear anything. You don't want to, everything's numbed. You don't have to care about anything, so you don't have to get hurt. But being under hurts you too, you just don't realise it. Maybe people around her just don't realise, they just think she's out of control, or having fun. They're all floating, and she's just falling. such a sad song <3 |

I think it could be about a hundred and one differant things, but the one I thought first was she ran all her life. Maybe her Dad neglected her emotionally, or sending her away to aboarding school or something. The whole 'ring' bit could just mean an attatchment, or an obligation. She was expected to stay put at the school, or have a good time, but it never happened, so she carried on running. I kept thinking she had a baby somewhere in the song, but I'm not sure whether I'm just taking the 'newborn' too literally. Thats what I thought, first time I listened to it too. Her latest album is so beautiful. xx |

I thought it felt like it was about abuse first time i heard it. But now i read it again, & i'm not so sure.. It definately felt like 'loosing innocence' but not just virginity or anything like that. Something like, her parents divorced, she ranaway, got into trouble with a guy /pregnant/getting hurt or something. Its only my interpretation though, its what came to mind when i read it first. Its a great song <3 xoo |

It nearly made me cry the first time i heard it, & so i probably automatically think about the things that i've dealt with, especially as my name's Kate anyway. but i always thought of it as a girl who had an abusive childhood (physically or mentally) 'she was never okay, never found the way. but always had hope, and said she would be okay, even though she wasn't. when they said 'the little bit of something, & contorl over me; i always saw it as self harm. which could be anything from cutting to eating disorders to drug/alchohol abuse. its a beautifully sad song<3 xo |
