Rush – Double Agent Lyrics
|
Duality in every person. As humans, we do things we know we are not supposed to do. And we make excuses to justify those things, then later regret them. 'Wilderness of mirrors' represents the illusions we allow ourselves to be fooled by. Drugs and addiction could be examples of this...'where would you rather be? Anywhere but here' could mean someone not being happy with their state in the present. Again, drugs and needing to get high....From what I understand, Neil was quite fond of cocaine...whether this inspired the lyrics? We may never know. |

Talk Talk – Give It Up Lyrics
|
Not sure why this album doesn't get more praise than it has. Lyrically and musically and not to mention the stellar production, it set a benchmark for the era.
As to the meaning, Hollis' lyrics have a tendency to lean towards religion. This is no exception...seems like he's speaking to atheists who believe in nothing. Telling them to 'give it up' and questioning them about where love and luck come from... |

Cut Copy – Take Me Over Lyrics

Not only do I hear "Down Under" by Men At Work, but also Fleetwood Macs' "Everywhere" in this song. Sometimes an artists "idea" can subconsciously come from direct inspiration. I would not be surprised if that were the case here. |

Ryan Adams – Wonderwall (Oasis cover) Lyrics

I remember hearing somewhere, Noel Gallagher said that this was the way Wonderwall should have been done.
Noel saw Ryan perform this live and told him that he can keep the song because Oasis could never get it right...true story
I think Liam had a different opinion on it, but thats expected |

Rush – Animate Lyrics

I think Neil's writing about finding a person (lover) who can basically light up your life. And that includes becoming more sensitive. That gain of sensitivity on the males behalf, will undoubtedly strengthen the relationship. He's also describing all these different roles his lover plays to his subconscious and
how the woman he's fallen in love with has changed him. |

Kyuss – Gardenia Lyrics

Sky Valley IMO, is one of the best albums of the 90's, if not EVER. Kyuss truly caught lightning in a bottle with that album. Blues for the Red Sun is great too, but Sky Valley is beyond comprehension.
Gardenia is perhaps the greatest opener (along w/ Tool's "The Grudge) for any album. The way the guitars soar out of my fucking speakers from the first moment, at full volume, give me goosebumps everytime. I could care less about the lyrics. Josh Homme is a fucking badass! |

i was surprised on how upbeat this was given the content on Third. Though the lyrics are just as dark as ever. Love the synth loop but I hope this direction is tossed |

i agree allyfalcon42
he's doesnt want to look back at his past and realize that his best, most fun years were behind him. If you think about, that's a really depressing thought.
I guess people who have this great experience of college in all of it's excesses & glam, as gadrobcm16 described in their theory, can somewhat relate to this sad epiphany. |

Porcupine Tree – Synesthesia Lyrics
|
this is quite possibly my favorite PT song. Ive read that synesthesia is what mrvenneti said, connecting two senses together. Ive also heard that its a phenomenon that you experience right before you die. Everything you see turns into different, vibrant colors...that theory would fit the lyrics of the song given the subject is obviously dying...perhaps as he's writing the letter, all the letters in the note are starting display these different colors... |

the Dark Origins demo is one of my favorite PT songs. This song is great too, but the atmosphere and trance of Dark Origins is incredible and far superior IMO |

Air – Missing the Light of the Day Lyrics

its not easy being a straight male and admitting that I like this band, but music is music and purely subjective...
This is one of my favs on Love 2. The vocal melodies mixed with the main bass line and little piano runs in between phrases are what move me the most. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory about its meaning. Love 2 is great album! |

Porcupine Tree – Burning Sky Lyrics
|
great piece of music from the brilliant album "Up The Downstair". I much prefer the original version of UTD over the 2004 remix with Gavins drums.
the song before Burning Sky, Small Fish, ends with the lyrics:
"The last thing that I saw as, my life passed by
Were fields of empty people, laying down to die
The rain lashed down in darkness
A lizard blinked an eye
And time stopped in the silence
To watch the burning sky"
Obviously about death and those last seconds of realizing what is happening. Then, the 11 minute "Burning Sky" takes you on a ride...more of a trip really! |

yes it is. the mood of the song is great. I think theres a little spoken word too. I believe someone says "the brainwashed do not know that they are brainwashed" around 1:45...
i particularly love the bass line |

Porcupine Tree – Idiot Prayer Lyrics
|
yes...BUT then it turns directly around and now hes asking for help. PLEASE HELP....PLEASE HELP. It almost seems to change in a silent, quick manner. Like how it really would during a trip.
He feels these "feelings" he knows are hallucinations. He even compares the visuals to something real, like a deck of cards. Has a feeling of what paradise MIGHT be like (still in reality)
Then after "Please help", his next statement is one that offers no doubt. The room is really filling up with patterns and light. Now he thinks he's dying (a common bad trip inducer) haha |

Porcupine Tree – Way Out of Here Lyrics

i love the line:
And I'm trying to forget
Even your name
And the way that you look
When you're sleeping, dreaming of this
it makes his goal in the song, suddenly reality. kinda spooky. |

Alice in Chains – Private Hell Lyrics

this is a great song. my favorite off the new album. its droning enough to really capture the mood and take you through deep melancholy (true AiC style). i love how the last chorus' vocals trail off and fade far into the last guitar bit. |

The Smashing Pumpkins – Starla Lyrics

the best Pumpkins sound is the psychedelic one. Every song of theirs, that has a bit psychedelia in it, is superb. Starla is possibly the greatest one.
I hope he's goes back to this style in his project album " Teargarden by Kaleidyscope" |

Porcupine Tree – Remember Me Lover Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
to me, this song is about the end of a relationship (duh!) but to be more specific...
since the separation was quite bitter, memories of the once healthy relationship are overridden by the horrible aspects of it. When two people separate, the relationship can be remembered as fruitful OR uninspiring and I think thats somewhat dependent on how the "break-up" is conducted. Thats what this song is about IMO.
I really love the lyrics:
"I walked away now remember me lover
I told you lies now remember me lover
I took your money remember me lover
I ruined your life now remember me lover"
I picture SW mocking the subject in these lyrics. Basically saying, she did all this shit to him but still expects to be remembered as a "lover". |

the snapping of the fingers part kinda freaks me out. Ive only tripped twice on LSD (will NEVER do it again) but both times I remember snapping my fingers and thinking Ive just solved the mystery to the "meaning of life". Everything made sense after that. Freeekeeeyyy |

ok, now that we know "glossyfrost" has no idea what he's talking about, we can move on...

Nine Inch Nails – Vessel Lyrics

I think "Vessel" is a reference to the human body. We are just matter walking around, but our mind is trying to be controlled. beck's song "chemtrails" is another idea in the same manner. 2012 is right around the corner... |
