Creed – In America Lyrics 17 years ago
my own life,

I agree with you that Creed WAS a band with high moral ideas (until they split up, and now Scott has been arrested for domestic abuse). these ideals are accessible for anyone who thinks for themselves.

But if you want to really understand Creed, to ignore the formative influence of Christianity and the Bible on Scott Stapp and his lyrics is just silly and ignorant. It's there, it's simply will you ignore it or not?

Creed – Pity For A Dime Lyrics 17 years ago
Any chance it's a dime bag of marijuana that he's talking about?

Tool – Sober Lyrics 17 years ago
This is funny, but every time I heard this song I thought he was saying "Jesus blows his fucking whistle, something that the pastor done." Same meaning though -- saying that religion is about blame. Idon't agree.

Switchfoot – Twenty-Four Lyrics 17 years ago
I heard this song when I turned 24.

My favorite line is "I'm not copping out, when you're raising the dead in me."

Not copping out, is persevering in love and being real.

We should not ignore problems or pains.
Or get impatient and give up.

The first stanza is wrong. He says "Now to devour somethin'" as in eat.

Nickelback – Hero Lyrics 17 years ago
"Now that the world isn't ending, it's love that I'm sending to you"

There is some kind of learned REALISM here. The singer expected a dramatic, heroic DELIVERANCE or SALVATION of some kind. That did not come. So he has to accept the world as it is -- undramatic, unheroic, and full of bad as well as good.

Was this song written FOR Spiderman? It's basically perfect for describing Spiderman's coming of age.

Creed – Sister Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree that this song is about an "overlooked" middle child (a girl). "Little sister" is Scott's younger sister. "Love given to the younger" means younger than her: the third child, the youngest of the three, who also received more attention, just like Scott, the oldest.

She is "bottled up" and "holding back" because she has no outlet to express herself.

"Broken father, broken brother," says she had no strong or constant parent in her father, and no steady older sibling in her brother. A girl in this situation often turns to relationships with other boys/ men outside the family to fill the gap. "Emptiness feeds the hunger" feeds her desire to find a man outside of the family because she had no good male role model, with her brother being into drugs and her father being ineffectual.

Creed is always showing compassion for weak and overlooked people. Look at the next song on the album "What's this life for?". THis is definitely about weak and broken people who live with demons that haunt them.

Evanescence – Lithium Lyrics 17 years ago
"drown my will" is very interesting. I understand that a person with depression is sometimes incapacitated from action, from getting up and doing something. That is sad and needs remediation. I wonder if Amy finds help dealing with depression in "Christ ... my tourniquet," who "wakes me up inside" and "brings me to life."

Yes, it's beautiful. DC Talk is (was) a picture of diversity themselves.

DC Talk – Jesus Freak Lyrics 17 years ago
Let me finish. To say that "DC Talk is ignorant" is hatery for one. "Hatery" is the art of hating.
Second, it assumes that Christianity is a matter of mere academic discussion, which has rules and etiquette which, perhaps, this song violates.
But if you pay attention to the song, it is saying that Christianity is more than mere discourse. It is Proclamation, and Action.

DC Talk – Jesus Freak Lyrics 17 years ago
I would like to say something about the song itself. -- a novel idea I know ; )
Two of the verses talk about Proclaimers, those who speak the word - the tattooed man and John the Baptist. What do they both preach? Repentance and forgiveness of sins. The other man is different. He is living the word. He says "My death is gain." His life is Christ. Does that make one a freak? Apparently so, especially if you look at the very first comment on this page; an "ignorant" freak, to be exact!
Social disapproval is what the lyrics say Proclamation will get you. However, eternal life is worth it, they also say.
A freak is an outcast, a person with aberrant behavior. The freaks were "goths" in my own regrettable high school experience.

Creed – Torn Lyrics 17 years ago
I want to add I do not think he is saying God lied to him. I believe he may have some issue with the faith he was raised in, though. I read that his parents did not let him listen to any modern music until he was 17. So he learned to express himself through music.

Creed – Torn Lyrics 17 years ago
I think he is questioning God, as was said. that is certainly clear. (Questioning does not mean losing faith.) The entire album, "My Own Prison," seems to be questioning God, but at the end arriving at a resolution in the song "One." that's my opinion.

he is struggling with his salvation and wrestling with God because he has sins and yet also has faith. that is where every Christian is at times.

i like his songs. but i disagree with him when he says "i am the only one who would carry on this far." he is not the only one who wrestles with faith; everyone does.

Creed – In America Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the line about dollars ought to read:

"we stamp our gold 'In God we trust.'" "Goal" clearly doesn't make sense; Stapp is referring to money and faith in these verses.

I believe he is saying something like only in America are we so blessed with money, that we begin to think only of money, and forget the God who gave us the blessing. I believe that is what he is saying. The Bible states that "the love of money is a root of many kinds of evil." This is about the vice of greed.

This shames me to want to avoid greed & do what is right.
