what does the bit about her socks mean?? i dont get it, but the impression i get from this song is her and a young lover secretly "rebelling "against the boring 9 to 5 office life of regular city people, and where you'd assume that they were "sex crazed", i think she just wants to be young and free, and stay innocent, also i think they commit suicide as they have no place in society, it all sounds quite up beat and positive at first, but when you look into it, you see that they are really quite despairing, no job, no one cares about them, nothing seems to go right, so why not commit suicide |

i also think that this song shows how money and limos etc dont really bring the happiness that family etc can bring, just notice the contrasts between the doctors who have no real concern for her wellbeing, only her money,

i dont think this song is primarily to do with aids etc, due to the lines about peace, morrissey's sympathy clearly goes out to the poor and desperate here, though he is too shy to "get involved", this could also be a dig at politicians of the time "love peace and harmony, very nice, maybe in the next world", words have never come so close to describing humanity, just that sentence alone is enough to leave communism as just a nice idea, why wasnt morrissey invented earlier, maybe the world would be a different place |

i bet, after years of bands , ( the beatles, the stones etc) trying to keep p with dylan, and emulate his songwriting, they all got to the last track of highway 61 revisited, and by the 11th minute had been reduced to tears, worrying that if the public actually bought what was good for them, they were through, i think this track realy showed them who the songwriting king was, and who it always would be, standing strong, on and on for more than eleven minutes, no one else could keep on at the same song in the same tone for 11 mins |

as far as i can see, this isnt a love song at all, its not really anything, dylan had set himself so farapart from the beatles and the stones, that he could now set about taking the piss out of their best efforts, and making it effortlessly hilarious, john lennon was praised for norwegian wood, and he stole the style from dylan, and dylan can make norwegian wood seem a bit crap on an album track, that is not the best known dylan song on it |
