3 Doors Down – When You're Young Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree with Phelly2. I'm still a slave to my parents in some ways, even though I'm 25. I know that they want me to be "safe, happy, and unharmed". However, the ways in which they think that is achievable are usually misguided and sometimes terribly wrong. If I hadn't defied them, I wouldn't have gone to college at the University of Texas, or done other things that I wouldn't have done had I listened to them. There are lots of things they wouldn't let me do as a child/teenager (play sports, for example), and I wasn't going to let them tell me I couldn't go away to college, too. Now I'm stuck in a city I hate and the days do seem longer (at work), but my parents say it's better this way. Exactly like the song says.

Bowling for Soup – Bipolar Lyrics 13 years ago
I have bipolar disorder and this song is funny to me. He's just saying that it's complicating to date a girl with bipolar disorder, which it probably is. The song makes me laugh because I knew a girl in high school who was bisexual and bipolar!

Paul Simon – Still Crazy After All These Years Lyrics 13 years ago
dark nation has it perfect. Scary, because right when I read the part about four in the morning, I realized that it is four in the morning as I'm typing this. Poetic, considering my persona matches the song.

Elton John – I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues Lyrics 14 years ago
I always liked this song, but never really thought of it deeply until now. I picture it as a song between Kevin and Winnie from The Wonder Years. At the end, they separate for 8 years when he goes to college and she goes to study art history in France. They meet back up in 1982 and he already is married to someone else and has a son, but he and Winnie remain lifelong friends. Depressing, but I think still similar. It could've been his song to her since it came out in 1983.

Bread – Aubrey Lyrics 14 years ago
I could definitely see this as being about the death of a friend or a young child. The thing that leads me to believe that it is about unrequited love (unless this line refers to something else) is that the month of June is a very popular wedding month. Therefore, the line "But where was June" would be about him lamenting that he, of course, never married the girl he loved. I heard this song today while shopping in a Tuesday Morning store and it sounded so beautiful. For some reason, it immediately made me think of the girl I'm in love with now since it sounded so dreamy. I wasn't able to understand all of the lyrics in the store, so now that I see them, I am saddened and scared! Then again, I was always afraid it would fail just like the guy in the song, so I can relate to it as well. She's still at college, and I just graduated and am back home looking for work, but I hope to make it back to the town where the college is very soon.

Don Henley – The End of the Innocence Lyrics 14 years ago
This song reminds me of The Wonder Years. He's looking back on childhood as an adult and lamenting on how much things have changed in life. He believes that if he could be with that special someone that makes him feel complete, that everything will be all right, regardless of how crappy the outside world is. I think it's stupid that he antagonized Reagan, but that's what the "tired old man" part was about. I love Don Henley's music, but hate his politics. I love this song too, but I choose to reappropriate the parts he originally intended for Reagan to King Obama. Obama's the real one who's screwing up the country now with his Communist policies, along with his Marxist shills like Rahm Emanuel and all of his "Czars." I feel like the America I'm living in now is the same Communist Russia that Ronald Reagan helped to abolish.... and I do feel like that if I can be with the girl I love, that things will be all right, despite how stressful and awful the world is today.

Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World Lyrics 14 years ago
It's pretty simple: it's about people who crave power. I think the instrumental solo at 2 minutes into the song is the best thing ever. The guitar riffs and the music are intoxicating at this point in the song.

Ian Brown – Illegal Attacks Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm glad I haven't heard this piece of crap before. I only stumbled upon it looking for some other Ian Brown lyrics. He's normally amazing, but he took the easy way out of this one. Israel is the canary in the mine. If they don't act, the fuckin' Palestinians will blast them off the face of the earth. I don't see why or how everyone is so much against Israel for simply trying to protect their country. But then again, it's the same morons who believe that who also don't believe in American sovriegnty from uncontrolled foriegn interests taking over our country, like Mexico.

Smash Mouth – Walkin' On The Sun Lyrics 16 years ago
The Hallowed, I think you're dead on. Except that I interpret the "If you follow, there may be a tomorrow" part more sarcastically; in the sense that I think he's trying to say that the people who follow these fads and trends and who try to convert others to do so are basically telling the world that it will end tomorrow if everyone does not follow the trends and fads that the "majority" follows. It's funny that when I just read the lyrics that I had the exact same thought that hit me as the other poster did about it possibly being about the black community. However, with more thought, I think it is about all of these things. Blacks, hippies, posers, conformists, etc., and how everyone including the world around them is fucked up. Partially because of outside factors, and partially because people are so stuck into themselves that they do not have the inclination to actually attempt to fix the real problems going on.

Silversun Pickups – Future Foe Scenarios Lyrics 16 years ago
I get this song completely. It's about how he has a close friend and then it turns out that the friend steals a girl that he wants to have a relationship with, thus causing the friend to become a foe, and thus, the meaning of the song and how you never know who might end up becoming a future foe in a "future foe scenario".

Silversun Pickups – Checkered Floor Lyrics 16 years ago
As a racing fan, this song reminds me of Dale Jarrett. He sold out, is being loved by sycophants now at Toyota, even though he had a bunch of fans and followers before. Read about him, you'll see what I mean.

Silverchair – Learn To Hate Lyrics 16 years ago
Just like i luv fu said, I thought it said common joy to masturbate as well. It seems to be a common motif in Silverchair's songs that they write lyrics that could actually be interpreted to sound like something else, creating a double entendre. I think this is beyond cool. See Ana's Song for one example of this.

R.E.M. – Stand Lyrics 16 years ago
That's funny, this is my favorite REM song. I first heard it as the theme song for the show "Get a Life" with Chris Elliott when I was 5 years old. Loved it and the show ever since. I think the meaning is actually pretty simple when put in the context of the show. Chris Elliott played a 40-year old paperboy who was basically a loser and a failure at mostly everything. The song was just a symbolism to say that he should stand up and do something with his life.

The Exies – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics 17 years ago
Beautiful song. I woke up tonight with it stuck in my head. Reminds me of all my friends graduating college now and that I'm stuck there another 2 years and that I might not see any of them again. This song is a remake of an old Talking Heads song.

Here's an explanation from The Exies themselves:

Phil Collins – One More Night Lyrics 17 years ago
I used to slow dance to this song in front of my dad's old stereo when I was about 3 years old. (I was an eccentric kid!) I'm now 20 years old and it's funny how much this song speaks to me because there is/was a woman in my life that I don't think I can ever stop loving and it took me 4 years to tell her. Now, just like the song says, I need another chance to prove to her that I'm a good guy even though she basically disowned me earlier this year for the stupid mistakes I had made that hurt her, like being overprotective and negative. I wish she would talk to me again.

Phil Collins – Easy Lover Lyrics 17 years ago
4everinlove, I hope you're joking. I'm not saying men are 100% innocent, but women do this shit all of the fucking time. FeLKoN, you're right on. Regardless, great sounding song from arguably the best male vocalist in the history of modern rock and adult contemporary music.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – She Cried Lyrics 17 years ago
I love Toad as a band, and I need to hear more of their songs. However, I'm not understanding this motif of violent anti-male subject matter in a number of their songs. It almost seems as if they hold the stereotypical societal belief that a majority of men are trash and have no social redeeming value; and that women are Christocentric, omniscient, perfect souls who are simply at the mercy of men, and are held back in every way because of it.

Rascal Flatts – What Hurts The Most Lyrics 18 years ago
I dedicate this song to Holly. I was so close to being with her, but something always went wrong, and I haven't seen her in a year. Closest thing I had to a real relationship. I also dedicate it to Sara. We were best friends for 7 years, and I waited too long to tell her how I felt about her. Now she doesn't want to speak to me ever again. It's all so painful.

Seether – The Gift Lyrics 18 years ago
Koralie, now I know I'm not crazy. It completes me as well. At first, I thought maybe he was talking to God, (The Gift is his life or his talent, and he is unsure how or embarrased to use it.) However, the Amy Lee thing fits perfectly, since I can relate, because I just broke off my 7-year friendship with a girl I loved for the same time. She never felt the same way, but we still remained friends until a couple of weeks ago. The last few years she tried to get me to stop saying things like that "I can't bear to look at myself in the mirror" or always feeling shame for something I said or did or not wanting to wake up in the morning. Now I need her friendship more than ever, and she's gone, and I feel ashamed of the way I told her how I felt because it just pushed her away completely. Anyway, very powerful song that just sucks you in to the moment.

Dexter Freebish – Prozak (Be Like Me) Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow, chriswarne! I guess this proves that it's just American radio that sucks ass, since your from England and you've heard this song on the radio. They don't play good songs like this here in America. I only heard it because it was on a local radio show that showcased local bands in Texas, where Dexter Freebish is from.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Something's Always Wrong Lyrics 18 years ago
Yet another underrated band, Toad the Wet Sprocket. Another great song from them, too. I first heard it in the closing scene of an episode of "Scrubs". The great thing is that they have such a distinct sound that I was sure I knew who it was who was singing it. This song speaks to me and my relationship with my friend. Something IS always wrong between me and her, and we can never quite figure out what it is.

Sponge – Plowed Lyrics 18 years ago
Sounds pretty angst-ridden to me, more like he doesn't know what he wants or what will happen to him next, and the weight that it is putting on his shoulders makes him miserable. Great song, great band. Sponge is possibly the most underrated of all '90s alt-rock bands. The plot of the movie Empire Records sounds sort of like Clerks. I'll have to check it out.

The Ataris – The Saddest Song Lyrics 18 years ago
Also, I can relate to it myself, because even though my dad was always there for me in physicality, I never really felt like he was there for me mentally or emotionally, until now, when I'm off at college. This is odd, since neither of my parents even wanted me to go to college if it meant I had to leave home. Plus, my parents seriously talked about divorce several times when I was young, but they managed to work out whatever problems they had.

Alice in Chains – I Stay Away Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is very pertinent to my life because here's what I think it means. The guy has a woman in his life who has either cheated on him, or simply doesn't reciprocate his love towards her. He says that, even though this is very painful too, it is easier to simply "stay away" from her, rather than be with her and be miserable because whenever he is with her, she drives him crazy inside and he can't overcome his unrequited loving feelings for her. I have found that this song epitomizes my life, because I have been madly in love with a girl for 7 years now. She is my best friend, but that's all she sees me as, too. Even though I love her with all my heart, and I'd probably get down on bended knee right now if it were up to me, it sometimes is easier to stay away from her so the powerful romantic feelings I have for her don't drive me totally insane.

The Ataris – The Saddest Song Lyrics 18 years ago
I can relate because my father's dad died when he was 2. The parents of the girl I've loved my whole life divorced when she was young, and my mom's dad died when she was in her early 20's.
