"and you can function as someone besides who you are" I think that it means that you can function but you can't live. Computers and other machines function but without any sort of feelings. If you are pretending to be someone you aren't you can function but you are robbing yourself of all emotions and that is a scary thought. |

I see this song in 2 parts. The first part is the part of a man and the higher pitched parts are from a god figure. Notice how the parts from the man are kinda harsh and sorrowful sounding. The god parts are peaceful and smooth. He thinks he can just pull the god off a shelf dust it off and get salvation from him. He tries to reassure his god by telling him that "you were always my man" and that he wants to celbrate the god. He is accepting his religion after rejecting it for a long time. "A butterfly that flaps its wings Affecting almost everything" This part is from the perspective of the god. He is saying everything you do has an affect on everything and everyone around you and to watch yor thoughts and actions. The singer is very self concious and insecure he tells the girl about everyhting he hates because he is insecure he always looks down and she tells him to look her in the eye he doesnt feel comfortable at school so he goes to the dark matinee where he feels more confident and secure he feels better because its dark i think he might be worried about his looks the girl changes him and he becomes famous and he isnt insecure and shy (that part about bbc2) the girl is very upbeat and it helps him overcome his problems |
