For me this song is about depression - kinda obvious but hear me out...
Extreme fatigue and hopelessness are fundamental to clinical depression and the lines "i don't wanna swim the ocean, fight the tide, swim forever" perfectly capture what I have felt when deeply depressed, i.e. just too tired and too hopeless to live life. Existential capitulation.
The first two lines make the link between cold and loneliness. So "when it's cold I'd like to die" = being alone and being depressed leads me to think of suicide.
This song makes me cry because I have felt this way so many times in my life. It makes me feel it all, every intense ache.
