This song is rather easy to understand. To me anyway and it is just my opinion it seems as though this guy is struggling with his feelings for a girlfriend. On one hand he wants to say he loves her but he knows that will only hurt her because he would be lying. So it is an internal struggle with his emotions as to what he should do because he is in a no win situation when asked if he loves his girlfriend.
