Im my opinion, this song is about trying so hard and perhaps finally giving up.
By the way, i haven't been able to either find or decipher the two lines that are missing there. If anyone does, I would be interested.

If I've got the "your" bit right then it becomes really knowing, like you've got to criticize yourself before anyone else can do it. Or it's about not caring about success or status or anything, making sure that people know you're better than that.
Pretty much all their songs are about the indie scene anyway, and this is just like a more personal version of that
