Generation Landslide Lyrics
Please clean your plate dear
The Lord above can see you
Don't you know people are starving in Korea
Alcohol and razor blades and poison and needles
Kindergarten people, they use them, they need them
The over-indulgent machines were their children
There wasn't a way down on Earth here to cool them
'Cause they looked just like humans
At Kresge's and Woolworth's
But decadent brains were at work to destroy
Brats in batallions were ruling the streets
Saying generation landslide
Closed the gap between them
And I laughed to myself at the men and the ladies
Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies
Militant mothers hiding in their basements
Using pots and pans as thier shields and their helmets
Molotov milk bottles heaved from pink high chairs
While Mother's Lib burned birth certificate papers
Dad gets his allowance from his sonny the dealer
Who's pubic to the world but involved in high finance
Sister's out till five doing banker's son's hours
But she owns a Maserati that's a gift from his father
Stopped at full speed at one hundred miles per hour
The Colgate invisible shield finally got 'em
But I laughed to myself at the men and the ladies
Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies
The Lord above can see you
Don't you know people are starving in Korea
Kindergarten people, they use them, they need them
There wasn't a way down on Earth here to cool them
'Cause they looked just like humans
At Kresge's and Woolworth's
But decadent brains were at work to destroy
Brats in batallions were ruling the streets
Saying generation landslide
Closed the gap between them
Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies
Using pots and pans as thier shields and their helmets
While Mother's Lib burned birth certificate papers
Dad gets his allowance from his sonny the dealer
Who's pubic to the world but involved in high finance
But she owns a Maserati that's a gift from his father

Sounds kinda like Bob Dylan style
one of their best. it's an attack on the rampant consumerism at the end of the sixties. society was in turmoil – vietnam, the aftermath of korea, changing values, womens lib etc. just kat is right, it's all in there. (easy for me, i was alive then!) and the chorus was just a further tilt. here were these five kids outta phoenix who in a matter of six years went from being track and field jocks to america's number one nightmare. and millionaires in the process. if you were around then you'd know, despite all the publicity, these guys terrified parents. i kid you not - there's never been anything like it since. kids now go "manson is so bad. isn't amy winehouse shocking?!" but us parents just go "meh...manson is like alice lite. and amy... puh, a two beer screamer." i wish i'd had the foresight to write down the sorta stauff my friend's parents used to say about the coopers.
No one gives an oink about prom night or football Cause just getting home from school safe is a gamble and a blessing Girlsies play with girlsies and boysies with boysies Bored with one another, like old broken Christmas toysies Kids are all hot get their parents so annoysies
This is one of the most underrated rock songs in history. I don't really care what it means... it's so freakin' awesome.
This is a (satirical) dark, dystopian nightmare/ horror film where the establishment and the adults of the world are assaulted by their own children, due to the way they were raised. An entire generation who were spoiled and taught that "everyone wins a trophy", brought up on "alcohol and razor blades", suddenly rebel against their upbringing and attack their own hypocritical parents with "brats in battalions" and "Molotov milk bottles", while "militant mothers" are "hiding in their basements". Luckily by the end of the matinee the protagonist parents finally win the day by employing the "Colgate invisible shield", only to find out that these are not their own children at all: "..I laughed to myself at the men and the ladies who never conceived of those Billion Dollar Babies".
although he fucked up the lyrics this is an awesome song...and should be reconized as one of the all time greatest Alice songs...it is also the sequel to Billion Dollar Babies...well that's all my input....late
i love this song and everytime i hear it im always trying to figure out all its hidden meanings cos theres a load of political/relevant stuff in here jsut waiting to be unpicked if you ask me!
So I'm kinda thinking that it's about parents who are a little strict when raising their children. They think that their children are doing very well for themselves, when in reality they are earning money in ways that aren't what their parents would approve of. I think it's kind of about parents thinking their children are perfect when they aren't.
