No More Mr. Nice Guy Lyrics

I used to be such a sweet, sweet thing
Until they got a hold of me
I opened doors for little old ladies
I helped the blind to see
I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me and I'm getting shot down
And I'm feeling mean
No more Mister Nice Guy
No more Mister Clean
No more Mister Nice Guy
They say he's sick , he's obscene
I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me and I'm getting shot down
And I'm feeling mean
My dog bit me on leg today
My cat clawled my eye
My mom's been thrown out of society circle
My dad's had to hide
I went to church incognito
When everybody rose, the Reserved Smith
He recognized me
Punched me in the nose

Vincent Furnier was a preacher's son, athlete, and pretty much your typical "All American Boy" back in the 60s. He also had a love for rock which lead him to enter his high school talent show with a few of his friends. These boys later became the band Alice Cooper. In order to stand out in the music industry, the band scare tacticts while preforming which lead to the creation of shock rock. This sub genre of rock was not looked kindly upon by the Christian community. Vincent, the band's lead singer who took on the name Alice Cooper was looked at as some sort of satanic monster that would infect their children with his barbaric behavior. In reality Alice was only a stage presence, he was created to shock people, but back home his family's friends didn't see it that way. His father's congregation began questioning him on his son behavior and wondering why they should listen to anything he says if his own son has turned demonic. His mother and father both were both shunned for the actions of the band.

This is really long and drawn out but essentially the song tells the story of the way Alice Cooper and his family were treated as they became notorious.

Simple meaning. Alice was a nice guy but kept getting raked over the coals in the media and churches for being satanic and he just had enough of it.

He also makes references to the backlash his parents get from his entertaining. He realizes that nice guys really do finish last.

Kick ass jam.

Brilliant song, i always thought it was about a boy at school, who used to be a good kid, but then started hanging out with the bad kids. And now his friends have all grown up, but he doesn't want to. His family's become hated by the community because of his actions.

This isn't a very complex song, but a beautiful and relatable one nonetheless.

The narrator was brought up to be very nice, caring polite, etc, the archetypal "Mr. Nice Guy". But his teen rebellion hit. Hard. He stopped being the nice, clean cut person that he was as a young child, and began to become "sick" and "obscene". The final verse is about how this phase has negatively impacted himself and his family, causing them to become social pariahs.
