this song is pretty cool. but still... it's sad... it seems to me that this song what this person is singing about is about some person waiting for someone. well yeah it's quite obious. but how long will the person wait for this person to come back? that's the question.
Heh, cool. I think Dan Haseltine (the lead singer / songwriter) is talking about his relationship w/ God. The cool thing about the song is that it can be related to on many levels, though.

I definitely see the song as referring to a relationship with God, or more specifically Jesus. It doesn't get much clearer than "keep my laterns lit." :) I think the song is pretty much questioning things about the Second Coming.
this is a great song, portraying so many shared feelings by christians today Dan Haseltine probably 99% talking about his own struggles that he shares, and this is a great part of Jars of Clay's ministry. They reach out to their fans, showing them that JOC is no where near perfect, they have their own doubts, their own fears, and their own struggles but above all they are living life for God. This song istelf is great, and the line "I don't want to step from these shadows" shows a shared feeling so many chrisitans have, of being luke warm, not feeling God's presence in their lives at many times, yet the song ends very hopefully, shown mainly by the fact that He will come back
I think this song does reflect the writer's relationship with God and how much he longs for heaven, for his coming back again. I think this song is portrays eagerness for the Second Coming through a restless tone (about being in the world)
