These Ordinary Days Lyrics

.:: These Ordinary Days ::.

Not much for conversation
I still find need to pray
Sometimes I get tired of walking
Through these ordinary days

If nothing else I get to see you
Even if we never speak
The harm of words is sometimes we don't
Quite know what they really mean

Chorus:
I don't know where
I don't know how
I don't know why
But your love can make these things better

Let me lay down in this field
And stare up at the sky
I hope the days and clouds turn into something
As they pass us by

And maybe you could settle
For a skyline faded blue
I hope that you might settle
For this love I have for you

[Chorus] x 3
Your love can make these things better
Your love can make these things better
Your love can make these things better

This song means so much to me. It just forces me to put things in perspective whenever life gets me down.

"Sometimes I get tired of walking Through these ordinary days"

When disappointments just seem overwhelming, I'm reminded how God's love just always lift me up.

"I don't know where I don't know how I don't know why But your love can make these things better "

sometimes i guess you get those days/weeks where by you dpnt feel Him much; He's there and you know it but the days that seem to pass seem so ordinary but ya i guess its a nice feeling just knowing He's there all the time anyway.

i was listening to this cd on my computer when i was feeling rather down and depressed because i felt hard pressed in every direction. i wasn't exactly paying attention to the music, but when i heard the chorus of this song, it made me pause for a moment to remember that He's always there for me, and that he never ever changes even though our emotions tell us otherwise; we just have to turn to him. i love this.

This is my favorite Jars song. It means a lot to me, for I think it helped me a great deal learning to trust in God's presence and help in times when I don't understand what's happening in my life and I don't see a solution.

The first verse, I find a bit hard to understand. I guess it is speaking of times of weariness and struggle in a relationship to God, like 'not much for conversation' could express someones difficulties in hearing God's answers to his prayers, and 'the harm of words is sometimes we don't quite know what they really mean' could indicate difficulties in understanding what God is saying through passages in the Bible, maybe some that are hard to understand.

The second verse is the most beautiful metaphor of someone reflecting his (or her) life, and God's reaction to it, I ever heard. It tells of someone watching the sky in a moment of rest and looking out, wondering if the clouds would form something that makes sense. When I see myself in that picture, it's me thinking about my life, wondering if what's happening, or has already happened, to me (the clouds) will make any sense, in the end. Sometimes I wish that everything would go smooth and without difficulties ('maybe you could settle for a skyline faded blue'), but that's when God tells me to look to Him and reminds me that His love and guidance is worth so much more then just a pleasant time.

The chorus expresses a kind of attitude towards God that is trusting and full of hope that His love 'can make these things better'. Like in a father/son relationship, I don't have to know everything God is knowing and planning, I can trust that he is acting out of his love for me. 'All things work together for good to those who love God' (Romans 8,28), and this doesn't only mean blue skies...

I often tried to explain to myself why God did certain things in my life, especially in difficult times, and I wanted to figure out the meaning of it all. Sometimes this might work more or less, but eventually I had to realize that I cannot always understand what's going on. I have to trust God when I can't see clearly.

So, for me, this song is about surrender, and unconditional trust.
