The Conductor Lyrics
Confident with your back to the audience
Tremelo strings begin with your gesturing wrist
Start the orchestra slow with an elegant aire
Then a circular sweep, crescendoing swell
Leo Slatkin, Dohnanyi, Previne, Depaur
Your arms are calling out
They wave like a swarm of sound
You pull the sound from scores of notes
You step the stage and take control
You're conducting verése in a moment of silence
Your body directs a pulse of wind
Von Karajan, Hampton, Menuhin, Levine
Your arms are calling out
They wave like a swarm of sound
You pull the sound from scores of notes
You step the stage and take control
Your arms are calling out
They wave like a swarm of sound
You pull the sound from scores of notes
You step the stage and take control
Control . . .

this is another good song for filming gay porno to....it's hot.
haha. Not that it is of any significance but years ago I heard one of the guys in the faint is gay. Does anyone know if it's true or not?

this whole CD drives me crazy. I love this.
somehow the faint managed to make a song about conductors good. and its odd to me because all the song is about is describing a conductor. for the longest time i thought it was conductiong electricity, just by the song, till i really heard the lyrics.
you have to see them live. when you see them live and they are projecting the images behind them while they play.. they played a bunch of scenes from WWII so makes me think this is about hitler.
This song is one their best. I an connect to it because i attend a top arts school, and my arts area is band, so i get to see an actual condutor everyday. the lead singer hit the condutor description right on the dot.
I agree with the hitler thing. It's about dictators or autocrats who need to be in control, and a conductor is a metaphor for that.
i was always so sure it was "your arms are crawing out"... i like that better. but anyway -- this song live is redonkulous. i think their shows are so amazing w/ the visual stuff going on in the background... hoping i get to see them at b.b. kings this october.
Wow this song is haunting. It's a good metaphor, like the dictator has a control of his people like a conductor has over the orchestra.
I like the intro bit, funky (:
i suppose if you wanna read too deep in it you could say its about dictators..... or you could realize he names actual classical composers's names.
lyricaly content-wise i'd say there is no embeded "meaning" since it doesn't stray from actually describing an orchestra conductor. Tho for a live performance flashing images of dictators makes a strong statement and goes well with the song. with your line of thinking you could also say this song is a metaphor for a sport's refferee.
The remix is better...(Thin White Duke Mix by Jaques Le Cont)
