Posed to Death Lyrics
I feel a warm resistance
Beneath the outer layer
What once moved living organs
Leaks through a thin veneer
Blue blooded royal body
Elegantly posed to death
Not speaking, prince, now are you?
Not breathing one more breath
Just now the curtain's folding
It falls and lies to rest
So, selfish royal brother
You've loved your wife to death
Your ways could not continue
You'd rule with hateful hands
I called you toward the staircase
And I caused your violent end
Beneath the outer layer
What once moved living organs
Leaks through a thin veneer
Blue blooded royal body
Elegantly posed to death
Not speaking, prince, now are you?
Not breathing one more breath
It falls and lies to rest
So, selfish royal brother
You've loved your wife to death
Your ways could not continue
You'd rule with hateful hands
I called you toward the staircase
And I caused your violent end

Okay, so I'm 90% sure I know what this is about. It is a specific part of Hamlet. Okami I think is right on track.
It's about when Hamlet kills Polonius. Polonius was hiding in the curtain ("Beneath the outer layer, What once moved living organs, Leaks through a thin veneer"), and Hamlet stabs him (thinking it was the King, his uncle). Also, the King (Claudius) murdered Hamlet's father (the deceased King, Hamlet Sr.) and married his wife. "So selfish royal brother, You've loved your wife to death, Your ways could not continue..." The king tries to poison Hamlet, and instead the queen drinks it and dies. Then of course Hamlet forces the king to drink the poison as well...
The only part I don't get are the last couple of lines.
Anyways, I'm reading the book and watching the movie in English, so I'm pretty sure.
In addition:
I saw the end of the MOVIE Hamlet today, which is word-for-word from the book. And they were on and near the stairs when Hamlet stabbed/poisoned Claudius. Ta-da!
I get such a shakespearean vibe when i consider these lyrics. it sounds sorta like king lear to me, but i don't remember the play all that well--the two brothers, both princes--edgar and edmund--one killed the other, but i don't remember how. "The curtain's folding", could that mean its near the end of the play? Just a thought.
This is song is my favorite off the "danse macabre" album. They are the best live band eva!!
in king lear, i think that it's based slightly off the roman tale of Romulus and Remus, which were two twin brothers and one ends up killing the other. so it could be either about this or king lear, cause i'd agree, i get that feeling out of it too. and the person who posted before me should be shot, post something intelligent.
x
Some of it reminds me of Hamlet, actually..
It reminds me of Hamlet. :P
easily the best part of this song (while the lyrics are all kind of great and wonderful) is the opening. every time i hear it, i have to stop and sing/shake along.
the opening to this song is fuckin' amazing
first of all, the opening to this song and all the ooh's throughout really make me think of sex ridiculously much. biggest turn on ever.
and secondly, i also think it's about Hamlet. The royal brother loving his wife to death: Claudius was Hamlet Sr.'s brother, right?
If this Hamlet/Shakespeare theory could ever be proven to me, I really would think that The Faint were an even more amazing band than I think at the momentl.
