Amon Amarth Lyrics
A storm rolls in from the sea
Covering the land with black thunder clouds
Rain whips the ground at their feet
As they come ashore in this foreign land
Thunder brakes the silence Of five hundred men assembled on shore
Gazing through the misty rain
At the mountain not a mile away
So dark and silent it stands there
The mighty AMON AMRATH
Reaching for the cloudcloked skies
So grim and fearful in might
With the wind in their backs they start walking
Decisive men of the north
They strive through this darkend land
With only mount doom in their sight
The closer they get to the mountain
The clearer their eyes can see
A forest of one thousand spears awaiting
Awaiting the battle that will be
A cry of war emerges
Echoes over the field
Boldley charging the enemy lines
With weapons so fearsome and sharp in their hands
And shields of oakwood and steel
They slit open stomachs and split sculls to the jaw
Intestants cover the field
The defenders are weak in this brutal war
The northmen have power and guts
A bloodshed like no one has seen here before
None can escape their cuts
Arrows with fire fly through the air
Touching houses and shields
The vikings can feel victory is near
As the enemy headlessly flees
A gust of wind blows in from the north
Clearing the clouds away
As twilight falls and the stars come forth
And the seawolves return to the bay
Corpses lie scattered all over the field
For the ravens to eat as they please
The mountain is now left there behind
As they sail with the first morning breeze
Covering the land with black thunder clouds
Rain whips the ground at their feet
As they come ashore in this foreign land
Gazing through the misty rain
At the mountain not a mile away
So dark and silent it stands there
The mighty AMON AMRATH
Reaching for the cloudcloked skies
So grim and fearful in might
Decisive men of the north
They strive through this darkend land
With only mount doom in their sight
The closer they get to the mountain
The clearer their eyes can see
A forest of one thousand spears awaiting
Awaiting the battle that will be
Echoes over the field
Boldley charging the enemy lines
And shields of oakwood and steel
They slit open stomachs and split sculls to the jaw
Intestants cover the field
The northmen have power and guts
A bloodshed like no one has seen here before

Touching houses and shields
The vikings can feel victory is near

Amon Amarth is Death, not black metal.
techically its Doom metal. Folk doom metal
techically its Doom metal. Folk doom metal
Death and black metal are musical styles, not lyrical styles. Amon Amarth is Death/Thrash metal like it or not. Not all death metal is violent, and not all black metal is satanic, so because amon amath doesnt talk about these things does not make them not death metal.
anyways...
thank you to the people that actually commented on the meaning of this song, thats what I was curious about
lol, you obviously had a bad run-in w/ the metal fanatics. Trust me, most metalheads don't take themselves half as seriously as they seem to.
octobersnackbar, i think you have a right to your own opinions. you can not like the metal genre if you want, but don't just brush it aside as a horrible flaw in humanity as you seem to. many metal songs have really great meanings. now about this song, im not sure it has a connection to lotr as i know the band actually arent really big tolkien fans. i think it has a broader meaning like people have said.
he's right we areantisocial misfits, pretentious stoners, and moronic sociopaths.
Point?
hahaha go away.
I must say! The responses to octobersnackbar are downright polite! Can you even imagine if a metalhead would drop one of those comments on a pop/hip-hop/rap song?
"Rap is the manifestation of retards attempting poetry..."
"Aw, you f-cking bitch!"
"It's you whoz retardid! Whore!"
Aah, the laughs!
lol @ RoC well done xD...and to octorbersnackbar: I look like any other "standard" person as you would say, but i listen to heavy/black/death/thrash metal etc. i also listen to techno and classical? i love the lyric style and the playing style even more, heavy metal doesn't over dramatize (most of the time) real life values like main stream music people who are looking to make it big and then quit writing intelligent music... Yes a lot of heavy metal uses mythology based ways of writing lyrics, but any smart person can figure out the means.... so go back to your main stream radio until you gain some common sense.
you think amon amrath is black metal??
It's not though. The song is about the band themselves, under the guise of a some vaguely outlined army/battle of sorts.
ya guys. listen to metal messiah. this is viking metal. perhaps the best viking metal band ever,
