Diane Lyrics

Hey little girl, wanna go for a ride?
There's room in my wagon, it's parked right outside
We can cruise down Robert Street all night long
But I think I'll just rape you and kill you instead

Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane

I hear there's a party at Lake Cove
It'd be so much easier if I drove
We could check it out, we could go and see
Come on, take a ride with me

Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane

Lay down together for a while
I'll put all your clothes in a nice, neat little pile
You're the cutest girl I've ever seen in my life
But it's over now and with my knife

Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane

Robert Street is in St. Paul, MN. Diane Edwards worked at a Perkins restaurant on Robert Street and was abducted, raped and murdered by Joseph Ture shortly after leaving work one night in 1980.

@Laggard thanks for the info. Now the song makes so much more sense. The final lyrics “but it’s all over now and with my knife” make clear it’s about killing someone he liked. Just wondering how a band from North Ireland was aware of something that happened in the USA in 1980. Wonder if it’s been on international news…

@Laggard no. Husker Du from St Paul wrote the song. That’s how they knew about the murder. The guy who murdered her didn’t know her. She was just an unlucky random victim he snatched from the street.

@Laggard Just found out the original version is by St. Paul Minnesota band Husker Du. It all makes sense now.

guess it's easy for everyone to see: this is a wicked story about a killing - from the point of view of the killer. a serious warning for girls not to get into cars w/ strangers. and a f***in' great song, BTW. :) guess it ain't a coincidence that "Diane" sounds like "dyin' " either.

erm... its a cover of the Husker Du song, that was based on a real event (and something similar happened in Therapy?'s home country, Ireland) i believe

This song tells the story from the killers point of vieuw... the killer prolly grew up in a poor family and didn't had much affection, His lonelyness isolated him and made him icecold. in the song he picks up a girl called Diane he raipes her and kills her - his frustration of a failled life and his comments on his life he gives to her cause she is one of the beautifull ppl in his eyes. It's a song about a pure psychopath killing a young girl. It's an exelent cover and they did a fine job with the sound.

I have always thought it was the kind of song that made fun of people worrying, well I don't know about you guys, but my mom always expects to find a killer or something in the bushes, and is therefor afraid to let me go out all by my self...maybu something else may have influenced my point of view..by the time I heard the song children found dead were all over the news, some pedofil who had murdered at least 4 young kids, kinda my age and we all got messages of ignoring older kids we didn't know or jus people we didn't know, I thought it had something to do with a case like that

How weird. I didn't know it was a cover, and was looking at Ireland in Google maps to find out the location of the lyrics. In Cork, Ireland (not Northern Ireland, but still) there is both a "Robert street" and a "Lake Cobh" (I think it's pronounced the same way as "Lake Cove"). Just a funny coincidence.
