Passing Bird Lyrics

She's got black hair
and she has got a black dress
she's pretending
that her life is a mess
but I cannot rest
with so many worries
I can't lie down
and say I am done

I live 'cause I need more light
I hope I can change today
she would never think of changing
too much fucking emo, it's false (I know)

she stops me in the street
and asks me to follow

I would if I could
if I wouldn't mind breaking her.

I think this song is about typical "goth" girls who pretend to be depressed althoug there is nothing wrong with them, whereas Jonas is genuinely depressed and trying to break out of it

I've had this album for years and always though he was saying 'ammo', not emo? Makes more sense to me!

I live 'cause I need more light I hope I can change today

I think these 2 lines contain the meaning and purpose behind most of Katatonias music and lyrics.

I think you can hear in the lyrics his wish for this girl to grow out of her negative state of mind and be a source of light for him.

when I hear this song I think of the My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay song cause it is so uplifting while trying to sell a fake feeling of despair! image that song without the singing, it would sound like your average uh Green Day or Blink182 song.

at least in Sweden Emo and Goth would be pretty synonymous. I know what type of girl he is singing about, she would be 13-25 and listen to kent, Nightwish, Evanescence, Metallica and My Chemical Romance (this is song is of course a few years older).

I think the main purpose of this song is to rveal the difference between people who really suffer from dpression and people who drown in their imaginary sorrows because they think it's cool. It's not that depressed people just don't care about anything. Most of them really believe in a change for good and they also try. Emos usually don't want to change, but their "depression" is mostly fake. It makes a great difference.

Yawo, dis song be phat.

it's not about a goth girl, but about an emo-girl.. (emo as the music style).. Katatonia got wrongfully "accused" of being an emo-band after releasing Tonight's Decision, and this is a "no way that we're an emo-band"-song...

He pronounces "emo" wrong, lol. He says it like "M-O", rather than "E-moe".

Great song though. I love the lyrics.

Isn't it strange when you've though a lyric is one thing for so long and it turns out to be another!

I can see both sides of this (Nocternity, Corpse_Decay). Either way, Katatonia isn't a modern "emo" band. Screw all of that scene bs

maybe he's saying too much fucking M.O., as in Modus Operandi! hahahaha....

I understand how emo music has goth roots, but I think this song is more about goths than eh-moes. elmos. almost. los alamos.

I originally considered that, but I also think now it might be "ammo" but perhaps because I don't want to believe Jonas so grievously mispronounced emo. I think most people hear the term emo and understand how to say it, so I'm going to go with ammo.
